I was thinking about painting the wood on the inside of my caravan as its looking a bit tired. Do you need a special primer or is it a case of sanding the wood so it no longer has a shiny finish???

I'm afraid 'no comment'! If it is a paper type finish it will be a Vinyl paper and therefore won't take any normal paints. If it is veneered composite  board a light sanding then a good quality undercoat first.

The consensus is that it shouldn't be painted.

a couple of vans ago we rubbed down then painted with a good quality household satin finish paint.

looked lovely and lasted the next few years we kept the van.

Just a light rubb down to give the paint something to key to.
