We have just seen a TEC caravan at Elite.  They look really nice, but we can't find much information about them.  Is buying a German caravan likely to be a problem or should we stick to British made?

German caravans have an excellent record of good construction quality so you should have no fears from that point of view. One thing to watch is that some models are wider at 2.5mts which are not able to be towed by vehicles of less than 3501kgs kerbweight which rules out all normal tow cars.

We have a TEC Travel King 510TE. It is over 4 years old now. We were totally new to caravaning when we boughtit (from new). We think it is excellent value for money. We were lucky as we really didn't know what we were looking at the time.

Now we are quite seasoned caravaners. We have been as far as Avignon,France and Lake Garda in Italy, as well as UK sites.

Permissible load 1300 (190 extra)

Load ready for drive off 1110 --- this seems quite light compared to many other vans now.

We have fitted a mover and had a British battery system fitted. They come with a European battery that you have to be careful you don't over-charge. I destroyed ours. I forgot it was on charge. The British system apparently works differently and you can leave it on charge as long as you like.

Also good reliable servicing, competitively priced. Gary is a good bloke and we have always been happy with the customer service.

We had a look at TEC vans 3 years ago at Elite. They were very good indeed when we decided which one we would like. They asked what car we would be towing with when we told they said that they would not sell the van to us. We would need a 3.5 ton vehicle to tow it with.

They new that they would lose a sale by doing this.

There are not many businesses that would do that.

Thanks for the replies.

We think we've made our minds up as all the reports we've had have been nothing but positive.  The one thing that keeps coming up is that "they don't leak" which seems to be every caravaners nightmare.  As far as the battery/electrics go Elite have assured us that the TEC caravans they sell are manufactured to UK spec and not continental spec.

Hopefully going back in a few days to do the deal

TF
