We are due to move house and have arranged for the caravan to go into storage for about 3 months while we have work done on the house.Do we need to inform the insurance company and will it affect our premiums ?

I would as it is a dead cert that if you (God forbid) need to make a claim, and you have not told them about a change of location, they will not pay.

I would also ask them to confirm it in writing, that way there is no way they can deny knowing about it.

Hi Sunburden,I would tell them or else your policy could be void. You dont need to give them an excuse not to pay should anything happen while in storage, and in any case they might give you discount if the storage site is as secure as our,s .We have camera,s ,warden, padlocked gates, the owner lives on sight too and the van has alarm, hitchlock, wheel clamps x2.It would take a helicopter to get to our van .Oop,s better not tempt fate.

i recently moved my caravan from one storage site to another closer to where we live.i was thinking the same as you until i read my policy and it did state that if the van was to be moved location insurers would need to know new details etc otherwise insurance void. i rang my insurance company the following day , i did take down the persons name i spoke to and asked them for a letter to confirm change over. i know you may find this all a little bit over the top but believe me its sods law if you didnt contact them something would happen . i do hope this helps
ps hope the new house is fab
