Any advice about how I do that?
I know it probably sounds like a stupid question but I have only recently bought my first caravan and the previous owner obviously didn't have much experience himself because he wasn't much help with any questions I had.
I have a Carver Water Heater but there were no manuals when I bought the caravan.
Thanks
Stuart

Stuart, the Carver drain plug should be on the outside of your heater unit, it it a small round plug with a screwdriver slot on the lower L/H edge of your unit, open this (remove plug and drain the water out), when draining, open all caravan taps and leave to drain.,also ensure there is no water in the thetford loo ,the drain plug for this is in the cassette recess on the left hand side at the top, usually a grey rubber bung you just pull out.(the rinse tank)

Stormcrow
Thanks very much for the help - it's very reassuring for a novice like me to know that there is this sort of support available.
I'll have a go at draining the system this evening.

Phew! I think I have managed it. Thank God for Stormcrow's description.
I opened all the taps - nearly forgot the shower - and then unscrewed the drain plug on the outside of the van (it took ages to slowly glug out).
Once it had finished, I screwed the drain plug back in. I thought I should do it now because I am liable to lose it between now and the next trip.
The loo isn't an issue because we have a portapotti - we're not posh enough to have a casette loo - so, hopefully, that is all ready now in case we have a big freeze.
Anything else I should think about?
Thanks
Stuart

Some of the Carver heaters have a small plastic screw above the drain bung. If you turn this 90ยบ (so the slot's vertical) it should drain faster: it's an air bleed. Don't panic if you can't find it though; not all Carver heaters have them.
