I've noticed that Landrover Disco drivers usually wear the thick fur type with the floppy pull down bits over the ears......handy for when they break down on a cold night!

A Tilley isn't any good unless its been broken in.  I've been told that it needs to 'pass through' an elephant before it can be worn.

i must agree with elephant on this one. it has to be the tilley. whether or not it has passed through an elephant, it is still a cool "laid back" piece of headgear. when i am not wearing mine, its on the rear parcel shelf instead of the cushions. it has done a good few miles over the years but still looks the part. hope you make a good choice of hat. craignsue

I keep looking at the "Crocodile Dundee" type hats, about 40 quid...seems a lot to make me look like a prat...most times I can achieve it myself for nothing!

Definitely has to be a "bunnet" - my driving instructor always said that if you see someone driving erratically/badly, guaranteed they'll be wearing a flat cap (usually driving a Volvo too). Bizarrely this seems to be true, don't know if it applies to caravanners as well. No offence Volvo drivers...

It IS true though, isn't it? If you're caught behind a real dawdler in an Austin Maestro, they're ALWAYS wearing a pork pie hat, aren't they? Or, on the other side of the coin, if you've been burned off by a chav in an Escort, then it's always an inverted baseball cap, 'innit'?

I TRY to be cool (and fail miserably, as per) by doing the 'surfer dude' thing in my pimped-up Trafic by wearing a beanie. But I always have to pull it off my head after five minutes as the head stubble starts itching with the heat!
