Has anyone used the PDQ Awning, if so, how do you rate it. I have seen a website with this on and am wondering how it stays on the side runner of the caravan, without sliding off when you drive off. Also, does it really take only 2mins to errect!
Looking at the video on the website, http://www.pyramid-awnings.co.uk/PDQ.htm it looks to me as if it and the bag that it sits in, is permanently attached to the side of your caravan and that it does not "sit" in any side runner.
We had one (for all of one weekend) last year. The awning is attached to the bag, and you feed the bag through the awning rail, as you would a normal awning. When you put it away, you fold/roll it up into the bag and zip it. Easier said than done when you and OH are only 5' 6" each! Lots of huffing and puffing.
This topic has been raised a LOT of times over the past 12 months. Do a search and you'll come up with a lot of "fors" and "againsts". Only last week someone else asked about them, go back a couple of pages and you'll see someone posted a link on the thread.
They're a good concept but there were a lot of snags with them when they were brand new (tearing, zips wrong way round, bag collecting water which drenched owner!)
First reports where bad but I am on my second one now and think they are great.
You have to remember they are not a replacement for a full awning, they are for week ends.
Once you have assembled the poles it all folds away, great for when we have the grand kids with us.
For £160.00 you can't go wrong.
Flack - can I just ask why you're on your second one? I didn't think they'd been out that long, and I'd want a couple of years out of it for £160. I was thinking of getting a Compactalite 260 or 390. I can't be bothered with a full awning, I just want one for early and late season to chuck the wellies and a few bits in, and the odd drizzly weekend now and again.

Yes I bought one of the very first ones and it had all the faults listed on here, but it still worked great, it did have the leaking bag but as they said once wet it would stop, and it did. the rest where design faults really. I had my first one up last November in the storms we had and it got wrecked poles got bent and it ripped, but I just got on to the company and they replaced it no questions asked.
The new one has all the design faults fixed and up to now has been great.
I think the idea is a good one and the ease of use and erection is the best, but people are trying to compare them with a full awning.
Use them for occasional use and there good but you have to be careful if its very windy.
I still have campers come and talk about it when they see you erect it in about 6 mins.
My brother has one. And he swears by it. Not at it.
He reckons it really is that good. He's stopped using his "proper" awning because of how easy the PDQ is to use.
And he informs me that it really does take 2 mins to erect.
I shall be purchasing one when funds allow. I was at the Tent Hire shop in Walsall on Saturday. (They sell them on Ebay) They had them for £149.00.
I have just been looking at & concidering the PDQ and have since read many opinions on here. I currently have a suncamp ultima 260 but find that in breezy conditions it a pain to erect & also flaps about where the awning sides meet the caravan.
Before i bite the bullet & purchase a PDQ i have 3 questions if anyone can help.
