Hi

We have impulsively bid for a van on ebay and won. Ah...
Forgot to check weight beforehand and seller being cagey (not looking good I know but I am an eternal optimist). What does the weight on the etched thingy on the chassis mean? Is this the MIRO or the fully laden weight. It is a fleetwood colchester. Also any ideas how to obtain a manual (FLeetwood haven't returned calls)?

Hey ho - lets pray it's dry!

Cheers for any help

The specification plate, usually on the side of the van, and low down near to the door, gives the following information.

MTPLM (Maximum Technical Permissible Laden Mass) This is the maximum weight that the caravan can be legally, when it is fully loaded for towing.

MIRO (Mass In Running Order)  This is the weight of the caravan as supplied by the manufacturer.

Your car (see handbook) must be rated to pull your fully loaded van, so it must have a permissible trailer weight not less than the MTPLM of the caravan.

If you are new to towing, it is advisable that your van when fully loaded should not be more than 85% of the car's permissible trailer weight.

Bertie.

the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
