Hardhurst farm is an excellent campsite located in the heart of the Hope Valley a mile from the centre of Hope. It's surrounded by beautiful views of Mam Tor, Win Hill and Lose Hill.
It's in an ideal location for any outdoor activities such as walking, rock climbing and cycling and within easy driving distances of many of the ridges such as Bamford and Stanage Edges.
The site does accept dogs but it is a working farm including sheep farming so you have to be careful about keeping your dog(s) on a lead at all times because there are sheep and lambs in adjacent fields.
The site had 9 spacious and free showers, 4 for men and 4 for women and 1 disabled, plenty of toilets and 3 washing up sinks, elsan point, recycling bins and an electric car charger. It also had a washing machine and drier (operable by tokens which could be purchased at the farmhouse for a small fee) and a freezer for ice blocks.
It's split into two fields, one for EHU units and one for non-electric. We didn't have electric and paid £9 per person per night which I think is pretty good value for money. I think it was an extra £5 for electric.
Sadly the on-site cafe is no more (because of the high cost of accommodation in the UK, it has now become a home) but there are plenty of places to eat nearby including the Traveller's Rest pub (which backs onto the farm).
Hope village also has pubs, cafes, shops aplenty and a curry house. Up the other way towards Hathersage, there is a 24-hour garage, and I discovered the Hope Valley ice-cream farm and shop (run by an Arla farming cooperative) - excellent for children especially at this time of year because they have baby animals.
It is a basic site, it can be a bit spidery in places although it used to be a lot worse; the shower block looked newly refurbished and the toilet block had had a coat of paint. But it's good VFM these days, friendly but unobtrusive owners, well-run with minor issues swiftly dealt with even on a bank holiday, plenty of hot water and a perfect base for outdoor sports or walking. It's also within easy walking distance from Hope station.
The fields back onto the train line but the trains stopped running running at night whilst I was there.
The site had space for children to play particularly in the non-electric field. There are no swings or slides or anything but plenty of ball games going on. I had expected it to be busier but the non-electric field wasn't as busy as it had been pre-covid; I think the owners have become more strict about booking.
The owners really don't do websites or social media. We booked by email or you can phone.
We had a really enjoyable stay.

Liked: friendly owners, location (quiet, away from main road (trains didn't bother us), proximity to great walks, public transport, Hope village with shop and great pub and cafe), hot water, recycling bins, elsan point, EHU, price
Disliked: the grey water disposal isn't accessible if you only have an outlet under your motorhome, ok for external tanks.
It looks like the site used to have a cafe but it wasn't open during our visit.
The nearest pub by the main road was below average so don't bother.

Nice relaxed and carefree site, just a slat field and a few limited facilities but great if you self-contained and want uncomplicated, good value camping. Owners are friendly.
The site is within a few hundred yards of a decent pub, and within walking distance of some of the best scenery in England. Mam Tor is just a few miles walk away, along with Perveril castle and the Blue John Caves.
The nearby village of Hope is well worth a visit too and there is a lovely footpath from Hope to castleton. If you like walking this site is perfect

Fantastic site, on site cafe for breakfast was a big bonus, friendly team and clean.
Lovely pub just around the corner. Safe and happy kids running around.

Cracking little site near Hope. With it being quiet only one field open but had plenty of room.
Two big catering sinks outside to do the washing up with loads of HOT water. Toilet block I used was basic but clean. Few spiders so softies beware lol. Friendly owners and I believe at weekends a cafe is open on site with benches outside. I arrived in the dark and did pitch near the entrance which was a bit rough but in the morning had a nosy round and the large slighty sloping field was great.
Travellers rest pub backs onto site and had a burger and a pint for tea that was great. Train station near by and Hope village has a shop and couple of nice friendly pubs. Both were dog and muddy boot friendly too I think.
Will be staying there again soon on my travels.

Good location for Castleton with a pub next door. Quite close to the train line, but it didn’t bother me.
Free showers were nice and clean, albeit the toilet block could do with a deep clean and a redecorate.

Arrived to a lovely friendly welcome. Spent a weekend here in below freezing weather with snow. Toilet block is separate to the shower block. Toilet block is basic not cold but not warm either. Still was useable and clean. Shower block was newer with lovely hot showers. Was not expecting much as it is a working farm not a holiday park with nothing on site, our only gripe was we thought a tad expensive at £20 a night including electric. Great base to explore Castleton and surrounding area. Great walks and a lovely pub down the lane serving lovely food that was not too expensive. Great basic campsite that we would use again.

We've used this site on a number of occasions over the past three years, it's location is ideal for climbing trips to Stanage.
Although often quite busy they will fit you in if at all possible. Avoid the far end of the field, the trains are noisy.
The toilet blocks could do with at least a coat of paint, it's a bit basic. The showers are okay, plenty of hot water freely available.
A big plus is the on site cafe for breakfast and the pub just down the lane for evening meals.
There's room for children to run about but no specific play area or equipment.

Love this site. Been going for years. Lovely views. But the toilets really need to be upgraded and cleaned more regularly as they get covered in grass and mud very quickly, however I can tolerate it for a couple of nights. Its great for a quick weekend if you live in Sheffield or Chesterfield. We took the grandkids this time and it felt very safe for them. The toilets are the main issue.

I was with one of many D of E groups staying at Hardhurst farm on the Saturday night - The site was shockingly overcrowded and consequently the facilities, and campers, suffered for it. We were given one area to pitch, but then shunted along later and had to work around other people - apologies to the two gents who must have felt very hemmed in, but there was literally no where else to go! An extra field had been cut to fit everyone in however the amount of toilets/showers was set, and inadequate as they got messy very quickly!

Only good thing about this site is the location, the grass is long, the hard standing is uneven the toilets and showers are disgusting as are the washing up facilities, whole place is tatty
Could be so nice with a bit of effort. £20 per night for caravan with hook up.

Great location. Ideal for walking/hiking. WinHill an uphill task from the site, but once there well worth the hike. Basic but clean facilities. Plenty of free hot showers. Just what you need after being out walking all day. Nice pub at the end of the lane. Recommend this site. Basic, clean, tidy, nice.

Just returned from a 2 night stay at this site, the campsite is ideally situated for walking the peaks which was the main reason for me staying. The campsite area is great because its flat and the grass is soft and reasonably kept, the toilets are however a major let down for the site as are the showers these both need modernisation. They were very dirty and not enough of them either, the on site cafe however more than makes up for the basic unclean facilities. You also get the added bonus of the train-line which continues through the night so be prepared for trains thundering past all night, also I found the campsite to be very noisy, with people chatting loudly each night until 3am at the earliest again be aware its not a quiet peaceful site.
