Stayed here as we wanted to visit Glasgow. The area is mainly a mobile home park for the elderly, with the touring areas towards the rear. It's a big park, so it takes a while to walk to the entrance & then another 30 mins to the railway station.
Pitch was fairly level, with a small picnic table next to it.
Toilet block was quite near the pitch, but unfortunately was not very clean. Someone had been drying their very long hair, which was all over the floor & stayed there for both days of our visit.
We tried to fill up our water tank before leaving, but the pressure was so low, it took too long & we gave up.
We stopped only 1 night in end due hospital appointment at Coventry.
Site OK, geared for Static caravans/ cabins, more than tours, nobody in office, but we found the 2 tours areas, we were on the wrong one, had to turnaround and fine our spot, after talking to other tours people.
Pitch was level with electric close at hand, water was other side of hard standing, not far but far ought.
We told the gate exit number by other campers, as till no body in offices, this before 6pm.
We visited this site as a base for a day out in Glasgow. The site is located on the outskirts a brisk 10 minute walk from the station at Stepps, so is ideal for this.
The approach to the site is through a housing estate and at first I thought I had taken a wrong turn. You then emerge from the housing estate onto the edge of a brand new private estate and Red Deer Village is ahead. This is a retirement park home site (which is immaculate).
You continue on and into the touring site. The reception area is very clean and tidy and the staff were efficient, helpful and friendly. They furnished us with all the details we needed for out Glasgow visit.
The touring site is well laid out and the pitches of hardstanding are level. Electric hook-up is available at every pitch. There are plenty of fresh water points and also BBQ stations.
The toilets and showers are immaculate and warm (very pleasant).
From a motor homer's point of view there is a fresh water station with its own very long hose, so no need to get my own out. The 'dumping station' for grey waste is easy to use with a large concrete base and full width grid.
Access to and from the motor-way is quick and easy. The site is quiet and peaceful despite its close proximity to Glasgow.
All in all an extremely well run and pleasant site.
We will definitely return as we have more Mackintosh attractions to visit.
Have just had an enjoyable week here. Now known as Red Deer.
A lot of hard work has been carried out to upgrade this former 'rundown' site to a pleasant, well maintained 5 star Visit Scotland rated site with a David Bellamy silver award.
Red Deer has a touring section and also an area with beautiful park homes for the over 50's.
Ashleigh and her team were helpful and efficient.
The site is ideally positioned for visiting Glasgow City centre. A 10 minute walk to Stepps railway station and a return ticket for £3. 40 whisks you in a few minutes to Queen Street station, in the heart of Glasgow.
Arrived on site through a housing estate of which the site is contiguous to, it is north east of Glasgow. We sited on a hard pitch. Site clean and tidy and quiet, but no tv connection on pitch. Two washrooms, one with only one wc, and the other block 2 wc's. Sinks very small and close together, no privacy cubicles, but very clean. Keys for every door, a bit of a nuisance. A nice touch was a seat and bench on pitch. Train station 15 minutes walk away which goes direct to Glasgow, £3. 40 return. Bus nearer I believe. Personally I would personally not rate it as five stars.
Stayed here one night for concert in Glasgow then on to Hebrides.
Decent flat pitches.
Staff were most helpful, friendly and welcoming. Despite being on edge of Glasgow, site was completely quiet and peaceful - which came as a pleasant surprise.
£10 to get taxi to SECC Glasgow using local, very friendly taxi firm as recommended at site.
Washrooms were modern and immaculately clean.
Owners have obviously put a lot of effort into developing and modernising this site and it's good to see them taking such pride in it.
You arrive through a new housing estate and entering the park the drive to the touring pitch is a bit grim, however they are doing improvement works around here.
When you get to the touring area the reception/toilets/parking/pitches are all well maintained and pleasant.
I was booked in by (I guess) the owners kids. They were very friendly and efficient providing all the necessary information. Very professional, well done.
Pitches
There are a number of compacted hard core hard standing pitches for caravans, with space to the rear for tents. The area is quite compact, views pretty limited, but nice enough and quiet.
The pitches are a walk down a steep banking from the toilets, so whilst this wasn't a problem for us anyone with mobility issue may struggle.
The ground was well draining and not too hard for getting pegs in.
Facilities
The toilet block seems very new. It's a typical portacabin style, quite small but very, very clean. Showers are hot and shaver sockets, soap, hand towels, etc. A plenty.
The reception sells juice, perhaps more, so this is handy. There is a supermarket and a Co-Op within a very short drive.
A 10 minute drive will take you to Glasgow Fort, which is a large out of town retail park. This includes Halfords, which can be helpful for any camping essentials you need to stock up on.
Free Wifi is available, which was great for checking out things to do in the area if you have your laptop/ipad with you. On my visit this was about 1Mb, so you won't be watching videos on it. But a great 'free' added bonus.
We chose this campsite as it was close to the Time Capsule, which is great fun for kids and pretty good value for a family. Go Outdoors is also close by for camping essentials.
A 20 minute drive will also take you to Bothwell Castle if you fancy a bit of history on your break. This is part of Historic Scotland and you will find details on their website.
Overall
I enjoyed my stay at this park. Although it is a bit more urban than I would usually go for, it is a great location for touring the area, including visiting Glasgow.
Quiet, Clean, Quality Pitch, Friendly Staff, Good base. I would happily recommend this site for a short break.
We have been using this site for many years and have seen it change from what looked like a bomb site into the attractive site it is now. The facilities are reasonable, the new hard standings very good with electrics, water nearby and picnic tables very good. The best aspect to this site is its location for visiting Glasgow. You can walk to Stepps station in ten minutes, then it is an eight minute ride to Queen Street, right next to George Square. This is a magnificent city with outstanding architecture, great shopping and wonderful restaurants. The site is also very accessible from all directions of travel.
There is a small shop nearby, but within walking distance are more shops and restaurants.
