After a long period of closure, we are delighted to advise that this campsite has now reopened under new ownership
We visited the site for a week, It was great, shown to our spot by Bob. Set up, Parked car on side of road 20 feet from caravan. No problems. Walked into llangollen several times, had a ride out to bala lake, but spent most of our time talking to our neighbours or just chilling out with the barbi and a shandy or three. Took our dinghy down to the river and spent a good few hours down there. The site was reasonably priced. Bob was very helpful. What more can I say. It is a shame the site has now closed. BUT he has acquired another site somewhere, Just wish I knew where it is. If anyone knows please let me know.
We wont be returning as we found it extremely expensive compared to what we normally pay, and you dont get much for the price. No play area for kids, only the river short walk away but quite dangerous for small children. The water tap disgusted us as it is just lay on the floor where all the dogs go to wee, not hygenic at all. Shower blocks not bad quite dirty some mornings and lacking in toilet roll. Not our cup of tea
Well, what can be said ? We were part of a group of 2 caravans and 2 tents. On arrival we were greeted quite well, shown to our pitches, the rules explained and left to get on with it.
Pitch spacing - we had about 4 feet one side and 3 feet the other. We were asked to park the cars in the car park. The only spaces being a good 200 yard walk from the caravan. The reason for this was explained as being to do with fire regulations, in case caravans had to be moved quickly in the event of a fire. Obviously, the unattended brazier at the back of our neighbours wasn’t a problem. (Quite how this would be achieved with a wheel clamp, hitch lock, awning etc. All set up left me a bit bemused). The request to move the cars was repeated umpteen times while we were clearly still setting up.
On the back of the receipt it states that cars must be parked at the side of the unit - difficult in a 3 or 4 foot gap. I thought there was a universal rule about minimum 20 feet between units, clearly the policy here is to pack ‘em in tight for the maximum revenue possible per square foot.
Another rule is no noise after 11 / 11:30. Interestingly, the owners of the ‘van we parked next to returned at around 01:00 and proceeded to make as much noise as possible until 03:00 outside and then put the telly on inside until 04:00. The following night, the late night party was repeated until around 03:00. A bit before this one of our party went to the office to complain about the noise, only to be told that he’d get no response as the site owner was at the party !
As for fire risks, the owner clearly had no problem (as he was there !) with a large brazier (the one that was unattended the afternoon before) being lit within the trees (low branches) that separate the two fields, no more than 10 feet from the back of our caravan, that managed to leap flames 6 or 8 feet in the air and smoke us all out.
All in all, a nice site, but not run in any sort of professional, friendly manner. In fact, on departure, one of our party was referred to as an “arrogant ba…rd” because he had complained about the noise.
Toilets and showers ?? Yes, there are some but none of us felt at all happy with using they were so dirty and covered in mildew.
The only reason we didn’t move off was that it was bank holiday weekend and everywhere else was full up, so we decided to put up with it and make the most of enjoying our holiday. A real shame as this place could really be something.
What can we say.for a beautiful location right by the river this site really lets itself down.the shower blocks were really filthy , shower curtains covered in mould and dirt, nothing a lick of paint and good scrub couldnt rectify.
Yes the showers were hot but crikey if someone was in the next one at same time your water ran cold
Please ,please come on the owners get it together, you have a great location there nothing a little scrub nown again couldnt cure. We went to another site in Criccieth weeks before and my my the couple who owned it went in every half hour to check and clean the place is very very clean. Im sure it isnt pleasant cleaning up other peoples shower and touilet facilities, but I guess they just took immense pride in their site!
We stayed here while our less hardy friends stayed at the Wild Pheasant Hotel down the road.
You have to laugh at the "Don't do this" and "Don't do that" signs around the site; Bob obviously has a computer and printer and isn't afraid to use it! Having said that, it's obvious that the feeling behind it is genuine and we didn't feel at all oppressed. The notice in the ladies loo asking the lady who steals the loo role to "leave the site and never come back" caused my partner much mirth, surpassed only by the one below that warns that CCTV is now in use in the toilet blocks!
The site is lovely and our stay, even so late in the season, was marred only by the group of idiots that thought it was fun to sing "delilah" and other hits from musicals between midnight and 2am. If their taste in music needed further investigation, the whole site was treated to "Lady in Red" at full volume at 3:20am. If I wasn't so annoyed, I might have had pity for their poor taste. Indeed, I may not have been so annoyed had it not been possibly the planets worst ever recorded tune.
Just a note to you campers - there is a large sign on the gate stating "No Supertents". Quite what constitues a "supertent" I don't know - you may want to phone first.
The toilet block is basic (albeit equipped with state of the art hidden CCTV!) and the showers are token only (20p each) but quite acceptable and clean.
This was our first camping trip together as a family and we really enjoyed it, the campsite is in a lovely area of Llangollen along side the river and the wonderful steam engine railway is on the other side of the river. The owners where really friendly and helpful and we just couldn't fault them. The shower block needs a bit of a repaint but other than that they where pretty clean. We have since been back a couple of times over the summer, we would certainly recommend it and we are planning our return visit next year.
May 2005 stayed at this site May bank holiday 2005, campsite was packed, but the lovely Bob and Dot squeezed us in, all 10 of us! Campsite was very clean, toilets and showers were shining and very warm.
The kids found the site shop very handy and bobs family helped us put together a fishing rod for the kids to fish in the river Dee which runs right along the camp site! We'll certainly be visiting again, again and again, all 10 of us!
We stayed at this park for a family weekend two weeks ago. The site itself is close to the A5 and I defy anybody to get any sleep if they are in the first field. We were in the main field and could hear the traffic. The only good thing I can say about this site is that you can have fun down by the river.
The toilet block leaves a lot to be desired and desparately needs a makeover. There are no privacy cubicles, and the bins had not been emptied for eons. the smell from where the rubbish was being dumped was awful and it was right next to where you had to wash your dishes.
On top of that the owner is a nark. His first words to us were "no parties after 11 pm" There were a group of pensioners right next to us who had set up a gazebo as their beer tent. Two nights they kept us awake until the early hours, and guess who was with them! Only the site owner and his partner. This was after he had been over to us at 10 o clock and asked us to turn our music off.
The music was not loud as we are not rowdy people. You have to pay for showers on top of the site fees. All in all we wont be going there again.
