Nice small site near Totnes town centre on the Bridgetown side of the river.
The site itself is very well looked after, pitches are level, but some are a bit short, we only just got ours on at 7. 5m. The wash block is clean and tidy, very modern.
The only let down is no privacy cubicle for shaving and washing.
You have to pay for electricity on this site, which cost us ?4. 67 for four nights. Better than some we?ve paid for
There is a cafe opposite the site does a good full English breakfast. There is the Albert pub just up the road which brews its own beer. Very traditional pub too. Food is also available in the evening. The town itself has lots of other pubs and eateries.
There is also a good bus service to places beyond.
Second stay here for us and definitely won't be our last.
Bonus that we were able to use our free night voucher (thank you CAMC).
Such a well looked after, tidy, quiet, friendly site. Love that's it's open all year as we're short of places like this in the West Country.
Different wardens this time - and still brilliant - nothing too much trouble.
Picked our own pitch, central to the site and near the facilities.
I had downloaded the metered electricity app (Caravan Club) but it wouldn't let me put in my card payment so had to go to the laundry/information room and use the large screen in there. Had a bit of trouble with zapping my card, but it worked eventually (and it was probably me in the first place!).
Toilets/showers (although small amount) were always spotless and I personally never found them busy when I used them.
Water and waste on each fully serviced pitch.
Bins and recycling at the entrance.
Short walk into Totnes, which has loads of places of interest, walks, independent shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. We enjoyed Happy Hour in the King William IV - 25% off 3-6pm!
Regular buses from town to various local places. We bought a dayrider ticket on the Saturday for £6. 50 per adult and went to Paignton, Torquay and Brixham. Well worth the money.
We fancied a Chinese takeaway Saturday evening so asked the wardens for some advice. Ruby Chinese Takeaway (Bridgetown) deliver direct to the site (£3 delivery charge). The food was hot, delicious and plentiful. Would recommend.
We love Steamer Quay as our 'out of season' break site and will return.
We stayed at Steamer Quay for the very first time over the weekend and all we can say is WOW!
Beautifully kept site, all pitches are level hardstandings and fully serviced. Some are smaller than others.
Such a friendly welcome on arrival - both wardens were lovely whenever we saw them.
Our friends had arrived before us so had saved us a pitch next to them - as the CAMC now allows.
We were given the details of how to hook up to the metered electric and it was a breeze. We had already set up and put credit into our Meter Macs account.
All the usual CAMC facilities - elsan, bins and recycling and a small but nicely refurbished, and spotlessly clean, toilet block. Ladies had 4 toilets, 2 showers and 4 wash hand basins. All accessed with a fob. I didn't think the facilities would be enough to cope with a full site, but never saw anyone queuing? The only thing I missed was the privacy cubicles, but can see that space doesn't allow it here.
Short walk to the quayside (great cafe - The Riverside - excellent breakfasts and local coffees from 8. 30am - we went twice!). Also it's an easy walk across the bridge into the quirky, friendly town with plenty of independent shops, bakeries, cafes, pubs, restaurants, etc. Decent local market on Fridays and Saturdays too.
We all walked along the River Dart to the steam train on the Saturday, and had a trip on that - reasonably priced @ £22 per adult too.
Frequent buses at the quayside, to the likes of Torquay, Paignton & Salcombe, etc.
We used our free night voucher here so had 2 nights for £34. 70 plus metered electric. This was one of the things putting us off staying here, but not any more. We used £3. 72 over our 2 night stay, which included the heating (on all night and evenings), fridge, kettle, lights, phone charging, etc.
We will DEFINITELY be back here, time and time again. It's handy for us living in Cornwall and a bonus being a rare open all year site, which we have a severe lack of down here in the West Country.
Award-winning camping and glamping on the edge of Dartmoor National Park near Tavistock, Devon. 40 grass and hardstanding pitches for tents, touring caravans and motorhomes with optional electric hook-ups. What a wonderful friendly site clean showers/toilets
The grounds are spotless well laid out, plenty of room to get relaxed and in the mood to enjoy so near a fab town(totnes) that has every thing you could want and need, so many eating places and drinking places you will be spoilt for choice,
Campsite wardens are great friendly and they know the area so well, for info just ask anyone of them
Return visit to this site. We only travelled 6b miles from Torbay and we had to be off that site at 10. 00, with this site being 1. 00pm arrivals I telephoned the day before to check the car park next door still allowed motorhomes. The lady warden called me back and was really helpful, we parked up and had a nice walk along the river and a coffee at the cafe prior to arriving on site at 1. 00pm. Really good wardens very efficient with check in
The site has no electric hook up and is mostly grass but neither was a problem we enjoyed three lovely sunny days so the solar panel managed well and it was a nice change to have the whistle kettle on the gas hob.
Totnes is a lovely little town with lots of quirky shops to browse and on Saturday a great local market
We love this area so I am sure we will be back again
The wardens are a credit to the CMC very hard working and cope very well dealing with a few awkward customers
Only improvement would be a motorhome serve point as they do not have a drain to enable the water to be emptied out. Wasn't a problem for us as we were moving to another site so just emptied on arrival there
They have done their best to accommodate those who need the toilet/shower block, despite having to put themselves at risk of Covid19 to do so.
It was very much appreciated as they are a lovely hard working couple who always make our stays comfortable.
The site is well maintained, grass cut, tidy, and flowers in bloom.
We will be going back again as soon as we can.
