Please note we have been advised that this site has closed, and no longer offers camping, motorhome or caravanning pitches. If you know that this situation has changed in the future, please could you let us know. Many thanks
Nice quiet get away from it all site. Not that easy to find though and had to turn a 28ft caravan around in a narrow lane onto a very busy road!
Owners were nice and helpful and were there if we needed them.
Its a working farm site so you do get tractors back and forth. This was no bother to us as our 3yr old loved watching them doing the hay. However if you have hay fever then this is not the place for you!
There are 2 fields which are well kept. The caravan pitches are all hard standing and level. We went into the tent field which is huge and practically had the field to ourselves for 2 weeks. Bliss!
Dogs are more than welcome and children are able to play ball games etc with no rules! The owners grand children often popped by to play with our son which kept him entertained! They have cut a path through their fields for a lovely dog walk which we used quite a lot.
The facilities are ok. 1 mens & 1 ladies toilet & shower. 1 extra unisex toilet in a shed. However the facilities were not cleaned once in the 2 weeks we were there and had no loo roll, soap, hand towels etc as they had run out! Wash up facilities in a shed which are nice and clean. Along with a few leaflets of local attractions. Facilities ok if they are quiet if it gets busy as they have a very large tent field then they would not be sufficient.
On site recycling, bins etc. However these had not been emptied once in 2 weeks and were full & overflowing.
They had a large sand pit with toys and a wooden wendy house for the children to play in. However not very well kept and a lot of the toys are broken so we only used it once.
The stream is lovely. You can just about get access to it and our 3 year old and our 2 dogs loved it and were in there every day as the weather was scorching. Great way to cool down.
Plenty of attractions, parks etc to visit in the area. We went to several and really enjoyed them all!
Overall a nice site, not cheap, great for a get away from it all hols with no frills. If this is what you like then this is the site for you. We would return here if we had to go back to this area. (Only if its out of season and quiet!).
Booked this site as an overnight stop back from south devon to north east as supposed to be close to motorway and easy access. Had directions and sat nav ended up driving up and down the road this site was on for over 20 mins, friend who was with me had to unhitch and turn van around re narrow road when we finally found site down very narrow country lane which you would not attempt to drive down with van on no signs or any indication where site is, when asked owner why its not sign posted and informed her re trouble we had finding site, she stated she had some trouble with travellers so removed all signs. (which is not ideal for genuine customers). Once on site its small but clean only one female one male toilet and shower nice play area for kids sand pit and toys.
I took our bell tent and utility tent here, with one adult and 2kids, for 4 nights, for £42. The shower was clean, as was the toilet. The washing up sink was in a small shed, so it was good to be out of the rain. Also in the shed were lots of leaflets and information about places to visit in the local area.
The play area has a large sandpit, a few ride-ons for toddlers and a playhouse that my 6 year old loved. My kids were really looking forward to the animals, having read the reviews on here, but the goats and horses were not around. The rabbits got a lot of grass and dandelions poked through the wire to them, but they could not be stroked.
The stream was the highlight of the visit. The grass has been cut to allow access, and before the heavy rain it was a good depth for my kids to paddle in safely. After the rain we did not risk it!
We were the only tent there, but chose to camp in the caravan area to make the most of the shelter. The tent field looked great though. Loads of space. The owners were friendly and helpful, as were the other visitors we met. There were about 6 caravans or motor homes there.
The only downsides. A lack of loo paper in the ladies for just over a day (quickly sorted out when I mentioned it) and a small but occupied wasp nest in the other toilet that was also mentioned but was still there when we left.
Overall. If you like a quiet, get-away-from-it-all site, very reasonably priced with helpful owners set in lovely countryside this should suit you very well!
Arrived on the Friday night, lovely welcome from Anne. Told us where to go and the best place to pitch. Said we were welcome to drive around and pitch were we wanted to.
Facilities are minimal, one shower and toilet each and an extra toilet. I decided not to use the shower due to the fact we weren't staying that long as there was no plug to dry my hair. It was too cold to go about with wet hair. So a plug would be a great addition.
Shower looked ok though and there was plenty of instructions. Always plenty of loo roll.
The kitchen facilities were good, though there wasn't any hot water.
There was a bit of traffic passing through the campsite to get to the fields and woods beyond.
But on a whole quiet peaceful.
There was the sound of motorbikes throughout the whole weekend, though we later found out the owner had reported this to the police as it was not an off road track as first thought.
I chose this campsite (on location and reviews) to introduce my nephew and niece to camping: and it couldn't have been a better choice.
We were the only tent for the 24 hours we were there, camped in the very large well-kept field and had the clean, fan-heated (!) toilet/shower block almost to ourselves, it seemed.
Kids had a great time playing in and around the stream, and there's access to plenty of open space (for late night torch-lit walk - great fun); even a major thunderstorm didn't spoil the fun, with the ground draining very well.
The kids loved the animals (have I ever seen a larger rabbit?) and want to go back; I think we will. We'll bring decent frisbee next time.
Beautiful site with excellent shower and toilet facilities. There is an outdoor kitchen facility and good information centre.
The site is nicely situated with small farm animals for younger children to enjoy, the stream was a big hit with our children.
There is a nice pub in walking distance, but book as they get very busy.
Coalville offers all facilities, supermarket, chemist, bank etc.
However, we were plagued with wasps, several of our party were stung and my brother left early has he has a severe reaction to wasp stings. Unfortunately it spoilt our stay.
Many of the public foot paths were seriously over grown, with nettles and brambles. But would still go back. Ideal for breaking a journey as it is only 2 miles off the motorway (M1) and easy access.
Our very first camping trip. After looking at reviews decided that this would be suitable. Couldn't have been more spot on.
Toilets/showers immaculate. Ann was extremely welcoming, and showed us around. Had pets corner, which my son who is 9 loved. Plenty of space to pitch tent, and well kept grass.
We pitched ours by the the stream, which you can cross to unspoilt walks.
Really quiet area even though there was plenty of people there. No shop on site, but not to far to local garage, chip shop and supermarket etc.
All in all we enjoyed our short stay, and will definitely be going back.
Just got back from a 3 night stay at Lower Grange Farm. We had a fantastic time, very pretty site. There isn't a playground for the kids, but they all loved playing in the open field and in the brook (aged 2 - 6). They all loved the animals - goats, rabbits, chickens, miniature ponies.
Everything you need is there - shower (1 mens, 1 ladies), 3 toilets, elsan point, water, small kitchen in a shed for washing up. Anne, the owner was very friendly and we all enjoyed chatting to her. A brilliant stay and will definitely be returning soon xx
We have just come back from a 2 night stay here but wished it was longer. Anne was very welcoming and helpful,
The site was lovely and clean and well looked after. There are only 2 showers and 3 toilets though which I imagine could involve long queue's when busy, they are nice and clean and warm though with plenty of hot water.
There are plenty of lovely walks, I am told you can walk to the local pub across the fields which we will do next time.
The pets corner was very cute which I am sure the kids love. We will definitely go back soon hopefully.
