We first visited Sweet Meadows in 2010 for a week or so, and returned in 2011 for three weeks.

It is extremely isolated and requires good map-reading or GPS to get to - and even with GPS make sure you are certain the address you're using is the right one! Just the post code can put you several hundred metres and turns away.

It is quiet, the owners are wonderfully English and welcoming, and if there are seven other groups staying that counts as very busy. The 'facilities' are pretty basic; one loo and a shower.

But it is really nice to be somewhere so back-to-basics; you're camping in a back garden, can have campfires - it's as far from the big campsites with row after row of tent as could be.

Electricity is available if you're close enough to the house. There are about three pitches in the garden, another three or so on the tennis court, with others available in the paddocks.

The area is outstandingly beautiful, most people only stay a few days but often wish they could stay longer (thus our extended return visit).

Great for getting away from it all, families or couples that like the great outdoors, not so good if a purpose-built shower block and on-site shop are essentials for you (it's a drive or an hours walk to get anywhere).

After a very pleasant drive down some narrow country lanes we came upon Sweet Meadows Campsite.

After a jolly welcome we were shown to one of the fields which was compact but very nice with a very level camping field.

The toilet, shower and sink were in a room at the end of the main thatched house and were well maintained. There are plenty of walks around about the site and only a short drive to lots of walks across Dartmoor.

Mornings at the campsite began with song birds and the sound of horses in a nearby field as a gentle awaken. A very pleasant stay and definitely a place to visit again.

Roger and Wendy are wonderful hosts on this picturesque and tiny little campsite. You are literally camping in their garden!

The site is basic and their is only a single bathroom containing the site's only toilet and shower which means you can be waiting at times.

This is a perfect spot if you want to get away from everything but still close enough to a bounty of attractions and sites only a short drive away.

I travelled with my wife and two daughters (10 & 7) and a friend with her two daughters. Everyone really enjoyed the site and Roger and Wendy's lovely hospitality. They really couldn't do enough for their guests.

This campsite is situated in the beautiful Teign Valley. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The site is split into three separate areas i) The thatched cottage's flower strewn garden. Pitches are sheltered and surrounded by trees. There is a swing for children here. Ii) The field, more open and receiving more sunlight. Also, containing a large trampoline. Iii) The paddocks, a choice of three, more remote and very quiet. There are ponies here. The owners will arrange for children to sit on them if you ask.

This is a very quiet site and a must for nature lovers. Wildlife abounds and the countryside is wonderful. One toilet and one shower, free hot water in the mornings and a charge is made if you fancy an evening shower as the owner has to put on the immersion heater. The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable about Dartmoor. Each morning the owners invite all campers to join them for coffee sat under the apple trees, a nice touch.

All in all, very relaxing and at £10 per unit an absolute bargain.
