We were recommended this site by a couple doing the nc500 the opposite direction to ourselves, on arrival I was not impressed but the better half insisted we stay. So glad she did. Found a level pitch to the left by a tap.
Great view over the beach and only one other couple on site.
We use our own facilities so cannot comment on toilet/ shower.
Had a lovely meal in a hotel/bar a mile up the road, good shop for supplies half mile up the road plus a well priced gift shop. Lots of nice scenic walks and a nice beach opposite with benches and stone firepits.
The other couple staying at the site ( Peter & Heather) invited us over to the beach for a fire and a few beers, brilliant evening listening to his excellent singing and guitar playing.
Loved this site and as another reviewer added you are on a adventure and should treat it as such.
Was also very low on break fluid and asked the owner if she knew of any garages nearby and even though she was busy mowing the lawn she kindly went to her house up the hill and appeared with a new bottle of break fluid.
We stayed here for 2 nights having arrived from the Black Isle to climb Ben Loyal. Couldn't believe this was the tourism 'advertised' campsite at the turn off near the causeway. Half the pitches are now waterlogged and only three at the right of the entrance are level. Because there were only 2 others on the first night and 1 on the second we got a level pitch with excellent views over the beach across the sea loch. The facilities are pretty basic but functional - the main plus is piping hot water. You need to take your own loo paper. We did use the showers - no ill effects. If we hadn't needed showers after the hillwalk we'd probably have wild camped in the vicinity.
The photo of the site on the website appears to be taken in it's heyday (1970's?). And it feels a bit stuck in that period.
That said, we enjoyed the stay - the site is what it is.
No electric hook up - but not a problem with our van - but may be for others.
With a bit of TLC and focussed improvements this could be a jewel of a location on the NC500 route.
We loved this site! Beautiful location near the beach with a wonderful view. We had an excellent pitch for our tent by the toilet block (which is kept beautifully clean). Shower was good~lots of hot water. The only reason I'm giving 9 and not 10 is that there was not a washing up area~you would need to use your own bowl. Lady warden was very nice and keeps everything very tidy with lovely little islands of wildflowers dotted around the site. Very peaceful and quiet. Very fair rates.
I've read lots of reviews of Bayview, which in the main are quite accurate however no one seems to be focusing on the positives, yes the toilet block resembles a lunatic asylum of the 50's, the woman in charge is socially challenged, at best, BUT this site is a little gem, the toilets, although aged and institutional are clean with lashings of hot water, the woman although odd was polite, interesting and if you like a bit of character, she had it in spades. The location is what this site is all about, stunning, get on the beach, build a cairn, climb up over the headland, it's beautiful, forget the dark dingy facilities and make the most of the pluses, you're on adventure-aren't you?? The local shop up the hill has a huge rang of goodies including fab artisan bread and amazing meat, the craft shop next door is an oasis in an arid dessert of shopping opportunities-I'll be back there for sure :) All in all this site is a must for those of us who didn't just stumble upon the North coast, get there now and enjoy what is around and forget what it doesn't have.
I couldn't check the reviews on this site before using this site because there's no mobile coverage, having had the misfortune to spend one night there I can only think that the lack of phone signal is the only reason people turn up and decide to use it!
We came across this site and decided we ought to stay as it's in remote north scotland, so no alternative sites. It's possibly the most overpriced, worst site we've ever stayed on (and we've had campervans for 8 years and have been all round the uk). The site is sloping and rough, even with 2 chocks under each front wheel we were far from level, the warden turned up and told us it's £16 a night, with toilet and shower but no electric - this seemed expensive, but we paid. When I went to look at the toilets I was horrified, definitely the most horrible toilets and shower I've seen on any site - I was trying to think what they reminded me of, then realised - 1930s eastern european lunatic asylum! And for £16 I was surprised to see a sign saying 'we do not supply toilet paper', or soap, so you have to wash your hands once you get back to your van. I only dared use the toilet once and there was no way I'd even think about using the shower. There is a cold water tap at the end of the block, but it had no label on it saying whether it was drinking water, and looked grimy, so we used our bottled water instead.
The site is next to a pretty beach, but as there are lots of pull ins by pretty beaches in the area I'd strongly advise anyone to just park in a pull in for free, because unless you are braver than me you won't use the facilities anyway, and will probably be parked on a more level piece of ground.
I wish it was possible to put a rating of 0/10, but it isn't so have had to over mark with 1 for everything, apart from location (which is nothing to do with the site!)

This place was our unique bad experience during our 3 weeks cycling trip in Scotland.
We arrived by bicycles exhausted after a long-lasting ride in strong wind from Durness. The nearby Youth Hostel in Tongue did not accept us pitching on the hostel site and told us about this camping, so we cycled back on the causeway then to Talmine and Melness which seemed never to be in sight.
Eventually we arrived, the camping was tiny, facilities although old were clean. One pitch looked free (others were marqued by debris of old camping chairs and scribbled note as 'reserved').
We started unpacking and as none was present, we started to pitch. An old lady arrived then and asked us if we had 'permission of the owner to settle'. The question was so surprising !
We said no and were explained that the owner was out, that the all place was 'booked', and that this pitch was not free. As this pitch was very large we tried to negotiate a space for our only night there. We were firmly invited to squeeze in a tiny space between their caravan and another tent which we refused (paying full price !).
We tried desperately to find a space in this unwelcoming camping but did not. We settled outside (on a grassy bank with benches and table near the beach) and tried after to negotiate a little water and a shower (which we were ready to pay) with the husband of the old lady. Which was refused.
Other users of the camping felt sorry for us and told us that the whole place is used by regular campers coming here years after years.
So we slept for free near the beach with beautiful view and no neighbours except the oysterscatchers and some peaceful cows. Water and toilets were at 5 mn by bike in the village near the (very welcoming) village-shop.
Leaving the next morning, we noticed that the pitch we were willing to set in was still free.
