This campsite has beautiful pitches, some hardstanding and some on grass. Very few have an actual seaview, but to get to the beach takes less than five minutes on foot from even the furthest pitches.

The toilets and showers are the main let down with this site, I had already read the previous reviews, yet wasn't prepared for the distance. It takes about a 10 minute walk. The facilities themselves are poor by todays standards.

The mens shower is like something from a public institution. You change on one side of the room and then cross naked to the other side to shower. The doors cover the middle part of your body only. This is not an arrangement I would like for young children to have to use. The showers are in need of a complete update.

Cleanliness was not particularly good, we arrived in the evening, and there wasn't any evidence of a cleaner for the next 48 hours. There was plenty of hot water and good water pressure.

The toilets were the same cleanliness wise, the cubicles are not big enough to stand in and open the door without squashing yourself up against the pan. There were no plugs in any of the sinks. When you arrive, you are issued with one key for the facilities, for a family of four, given the distance involved this can lead to some logistical issues. This could easily be resolved with combination locks, or a couple of keys.

There is a pleasant bar on site which has a good range of drinks, and does reasonable food which is good value. Unfortunately during our six night stay it was only open for four nights, and only did food on three. The staff were very good. The bar is totally underused, very strange given the size of the static touring site.

The cafe was very pleasant, good value and quality.

The location is good, being very close to the beach and a healthy walk to the village. Be aware though that very few places do food on a Sunday night in W Mersea. The Indian is well worth a visit.

Overall, we had a pleasant stay but I couldn't recommend this site. The lack of information about it on the internet, the state of the facilities, and the fact that it was just about empty when all the other sites on W Mersea are pretty well full speaks volumes. Shame really, because it is such a lovely location.

We arrived at Seaview Holiday Park on Saturday afternoon and were struck at once by the beautiful pastel coloured beach huts along the side of the park, facing onto the beach.

We were given a map to get to our pitch in the touring field. The pitches are hard standing and well spaced. All pitches have electric and some also have water.

We spent the afternoon/evening exploring the island and it was nice to be able come back to the site and have a drink in the Clubhouse before bed. It seemed to have been refurbished quite recently (perhaps why other reviewers reported it was closed?). The clubhouse, like the rest of the site, is dog friendly and the drinks are reasonably priced.

The Seaview Cafe, by the reception, served up a lovely breakfast the morning after.

Our only criticism was that the toilet block is a bit far from the touring field.

Also, ensure you have £20 deposit for the barrier fob as it's a long walk to the cashpoint in the village!

Seaview is a really nice site in a great beachside location. Pitches are well spaced out and although primarily a static caravan site the whole place seemed well looked after.

There was a bar / clubhouse on site however this only seems to be open at weekends, there is also a small shop / cafe and reception at the entrance to the park.

Access to toilets & showers is with a key and although both toilet blocks are a very long way from touring pitches they were large, almost always empty and spotlessly clean. The beachfront location is great and whilst not having a direct seaview due to the beach huts, a 20 second walk gets you right on the beach with great swimming / crabbing opportunities.

It wasn't cheap at £27 / night for a family of 4 but I guess your paying for the location. Hope to return.

Have just returned from Seaview, West Mersea.

We had a two night stay which was cut short by one night. This was partly due to the weather and our disappointment to find on arrival the bar / restaurant / takeaway was shut. Actually it looked like it had been shut all season so far.

We were shocked because website still maintains it is still open. We have been using Seaview regularly over the last three years. We found the bar to be a godsend especially if the weather is bad! Also being in a motorhome and do not wish to cook we found the takeaway service

Very useful. Other campers were also upset about the lack of information about the bar. We like Seaview because of its beach location. Shower block a pain because of the distance away from the touring field. On the plus side lady at reception is always very pleasant. We will not revisit Seaview unless the situation changes.

This is sad because we have always enjoyed our stay there. We have even thought about having a static there. Glad we have not gone down that route with the present situation as it is. We seriously think they will lose business to the adjacent camp sites. Curry Friday night at two Tides was a good gathering point for lots of friendly campers meeting up on a regular basis.

Arrived on Thursday afternoon would usually use other camp site on Mersea but they were full so decided to give sea view a go!

Total cost for 3 nights, caravan, awning and 2 dogs was £51 you need £20 for the barrier fob and toilet key which is refundable on return.

The pitches are a good size and the site is peaceful, easy walking distance of the beach which still allows the dogs on it! we walked into West Mersea which is within walking distance but is a bit of walk!

I agree totally with what was said about the shower blocks and toilets they are dated and in need of refurbishment although clean and tidy! and are in the middle of all of the static caravans so a short walk.

We had a wonderful weekend and would definitely visit again as it was excellent value for money.

The location of the site is perfect for access to the beach & shops are not far away either, both Tesco's Extra & a big coop are located within a mile. The site boasts 24 hour security but it's open to both the beach & a public footpath. Anyone can wander around. There were several dogs around & they weren't all kept on leads or monitored, hence dog mess was left on site.

The grass pitches are much larger than the hard standing and I think the better place to stay. You pitch with the jockey wheel on a concrete slab which defines your pitch space.

The toilet and shower block was built in the '60s and is located 100 yards away from the touring pitches. They are in need of up dating but performed ok.

Mersea is a lovely place to visit with several footpaths and walks along the beach. We had lunch at the company Shed & dinner at the sailing club; both very good.

A nice site and would visit there again.

If you like Oysters this is a must place to go. Mersea Island is famous for its Oyster and they are shipped all over the world.

To get to Mersea Island you have to cross the Strood from Colchester. At High tide this can sometimes be covered by the sea but unless it is a very high tide this is not a problem and can still be crossed.

We have just spent a weekend at this site and we really enjoyed it. We spent a weekend here two years ago and little has changed which we were pleased with. Although it does have a lot of static caravans on site you really don’t notice it. The touring sit is about 50 yards from the beach and a small club house with restaurant. We didn't eat there ourselves but was told it was nice. Weather was brilliant. The pitch was hardstanding and very close to the beach.

Our only niggle was the size of the pitches now. They are much smaller, when you put up an awning the space between your awning and your neighbours car is only about 3 feet. We were lucky we had no neighbours but the people across from us had a large motorhome beside them and they had no space. The grass pitches looked bigger.

The beach is stony but still a nice beach to walk on to the village. Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round, so lots of happy dogs walkers.

The Island has 1 Chip shop, a Co-op and Tesco Extra and some really lovely Fish restaurants.

We will definitely be going back and highly recommend this site and Mersea Island is a lovely place to visit.

We stayed hear in July and had a very nice time. We stayed on the touring and camping field which I preferred to the hard standing as that was more cramped. It was nice for the kids as you could see them playing with other children and the smallish club house was not loud and noisy was not far, on your doorstep. And was very clean.

Elsan point was rather smelly due to heat and enclosed brick built. Not much washing up facilites only two that I could see. No pool and no park but was beachside .

Only had to pay deposit until we got there.

Showers were the downfall of the camp. My son found them very hot, and shower was away from were you got dressed and no privacy on changing unless you used toilet block. No curtain only on shower area which you couldn't dress in . But I never had anyone else in there when I was in. It is also a bit silly that you get 1 key fob for a family of for which you need for the toilet and shower block.

But still had a good time as it was nice to sit outside clubhouse watch the kids and they had a good time. We did too

We stayed here as a quick get away with another group of friends and must admit after reading the reviews already written here I was rather weary. But I must say I was pleasantly surprised we only stayed over night but the toilets were clean and had a face lift although I did hear people complaining still about the showers being scolding. Our pitch was quite near the beach which was nice for the children.

I cant comment about the clubhouse or the food as we didn't try either but we did find the camp shop rather expensive and sold only the basics.

The pitches weren't that small but it wasn't that busy so maybe that's why.

In conclusion I would stay again it was a nice cheap break that the whole family enjoyed.

Stayed at this campsite for the first time for my mother in laws 60th Birthday. I was staying in a tent with my wife and 4 children and my mother in law in a caravan with her other children and grandchildren.

I will try and start off with the positives, the site was in a great location, right next to the sea, the pitches are level and the camp shop is well stocked, free juke box in bar.

That's really the only positives I can think of, the pitches are really small and too close together, if it was not for my mother in law's caravan being opposite I would have felt like my space was being invaded.
The pitches had only been marked out, (the paint still wet) and there was a lot of confusion to whose pitch was who’s with some people over lapping due to the poor marking. You could not reserve a pitch it was a free for all, which was a pain when we had a party of people coming at different times.

There was a lot of work on the beach huts, so the diggers were digging at about 7:30am right next to the pitches, this was not mentioned when we booked or when we arrived. I only noticed a letter at reception on my last day when I returned the barrier key. (Barrier key is a £10 deposit per key).

There are 2 or 3 sinks for washing up (these are the only ones we could find, not sure if there were anymore) If you wanted to wash up at night remember to take a lantern or you will be washing up in the dark, there is a light there but it never was on for the 5 days we camped. Also remember to clear your plates clean before you get to the washing up facilities because there are no bins to scrap your rubbish into, so people just left it to the side (yuck). The drinking water was a long distance away so make sure you have rolling bottles or a strong back, I used the hard standing pitches water tapes in the end because they were right next to the tent pitches.

There is nothing I can say positively about the toilets. The toilet block is old and in need of urgent updating. The showers are far far far too hot, in fact there are almost scalding hot. You could easily make a cup of tea from the shower water it was that hot. I could not shower my 5 year son or my 18 month old niece due to the heat we had to use my mother in laws caravan shower for the young ones.  After you manage to survive the shower and you wanted to shave or clean your teeth, you had to get dressed, go to another part of the building to have a shave which is a bit of a pain.
In one toilet block there were only 1 or 2 seats on the 8 toilets there (not pleasant).

The toilets seemed to be cleaned, I say seemed because there was a 2 day old newspaper in one of the toilets and it was never thrown away, it might still be there today.

The playground for the kids was a fair distance but it was fairly new.

The club house was dated, I cannot comment on the food, but there seemed to be plenty of choice.
The entertainment on the Sunday night was ok, they had a Elvis impersonator and a queen tribute band. The Elvis guy was good, the queen tribute band was ok, but he mimed almost his whole set……so not really a live band, the guitarist seemed to be playing something different to what was being played on the tape, I should know because I play the guitar; in fact I don’t think the bassist was playing at all.

So my conclusion is I would not visit again, the toilets are a pain the pitches too small and too close together, washing up facilities are poor. This site is catered towards the static’s with campers being an after thought.
This could be a great site if the facilities were better; the location is superb and close to Colchester Zoo and a number of nature reserves.
