We visited this C&CC certificated site for the weekend of the 7th to 9th August.
It is a flat grassy field that has been split into 2 by trees being planted down the middle.
The campsite is the far side of these, at the moment, small trees.
The side closest to the cottage is used as a parking area for the boat trips.
However, it soon empties out when the day trippers go home.
There is one toilet with a sink that has been contained within a converted shed.
The walls have been lined with a white board, the floor is a vinyl tile effect covering.
At the time of our visit this little room was immaculately clean.
The CDP is the best I have seen on a certificated site yet!
A cold water tap and waste bin make up the remainder of the facilities.
The site is located alongside the A28 and traffic noise was noticable at times mainly
Due to the bridge crossing the river at this point being narrow and controlled by traffic lights.
However, it was quiet at night.
Riverside Cottage is primarily used to run boat trips up to Bodiam and back.
We did not take one of the trips this time round but they seem to be good value at £10.00 for the
Return trip and were popular as were the rowing boats they hire out.
Fishing is available with day tickets at a reasonable £5.00 being available from the cottage.
There is a tea room at the cottage as well.
There are plenty of walking opportunities in this area, mostly along the River Rother.
The Kent and East Sussex railway runs close to the site and the station of Northiam is a few
Hundred yards up the road. This could be easily reached by a path that is just across the road and is
Convenient for steam train fans.
There are 2 pubs locally, one near to Northiam Station, the other over the bridge and on the
Main road in the village. I cannot comment on these as I did not get to use either of them but food is
Available in both.
There is a fish & chip shop in the village of Northiam, along with a small Spar, a Londis, a
Newsagent and a post office. We found this to be a good walk on the Sunday morning but be warned the
Round trip is around about 3 miles if walking is not your thing!
Just past Northiam station there were some small units that sold pet foods and a tackle shop
Is there too. Very handy for the fishermen who might want to stay for a while.
We really enjoyed our stay at this pleasant site, had a very relaxing weekend and will certainly return. Thoroughly recommended, but don't tell too many others!
