1 Reviews of the Naturehike Star River 2

By: Ewen c  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2020   Rating:

I bought this as a stop gap as it is lighter than my other 2 person tents and also very cheap.

The quality to price ratio is very good. All seams are straight and sewn well. All seams are sealed. The tent does not leak.

It packs up small with Poles removed and comes with a footprint. Even though it is pitch inner first, the footprint allows fly first as well.

Basically it is a copy of a Big Agnes tent. It is roomy inside, has two entrances and is surprisingly solid. However, it only has one vent. Condensation is a problem. Sometimes dripping into the inner. The inner is half mesh with solid walls which would help in winter but the mesh allows drips through. Careful pitching can give condensation free nights but you need to have each end drawn out and the flysheet high up. Not ideal for winter. The door zips can get stuck on the material and they are only one way. The inner doors drop down so can get stood on. A pocket would be better to store them in.

The tent has side pockets and ceiling pockets which are handy for a headtorch. Headroom is excellent. I am 6 foot and can sit on my downmat and still have room. The cross pole stretches out the room as well though those high sides may take a battering in the wind.

We recently used it for 7 nights backpacking in France. I have taken stars off for ventilation and for the zips and doors. I still give it 8 out of 10. Alas it is still too heavy for us. Maybe the original big Agnes would be better but it is 400 pounds more.

In summary. A very good budget tent that needs careful pitching. Very roomy and everything seems well made.
