5 Reviews of the Berghaus Cuillin 4

Love our Berghaus Cuillin tent, good space, dry and easy to put up and down. We spent quite a bit of time in Cornwall and are currently looking forward to our next trip.

Only issue is no extras. This time we'll have some friends with us so We really need an extension/porch, does anyone know of one that will fit it?

I bought my Berghaus Cuillin 4.2 in 2011 to take to a festival.

PROs

It was a farly decent size and although is a 4 berth with bedrooms installed you can happily sleep 6-8 by not putting hem in.

It seemed good quality.

Nice big bag that got everything in and more.

Instructions sewn in the bag which was good.

CONs

The bag needed better handles, carry handles too long and trolley handle too short!

No extras etc ever made

No longer made so no spares

On the second use 3 x duratec poles snapped - not misused.

Sooooo many loops etc it was not clear whether or not I ever actually put it up 100% properly!

I returned and got a refund and purchased an Outwell BL6 - I have high hopes. I did this as I did not think the Cuillin would have stood up to a family holiday.

We finally got to try out our new tent bought in Winter 2011 in June 2012. I am really glad that we only paid £150 for it as overall I wasn't exactly taken by it. It rained a LOT that weekend and the door ways were really hard to get into without getting soaked, there were also pools of water every day either through condensation or leaking at both sides of the door. It took forever to put up it seems to have millions of guyropes and tiny little poles to prop up the sides of the bedrooms. No clear instructions on how the poles should fit or indeed which parts were for pegs to go through. The quality is very high nothing broke on our first useage as seems to happen to us with other tents, it looks like it may stand the test of time. We are off again this weekend so shall see if it improves as we are camping a in a field rather than in the woods so may be able to pitch it better to stop any leaking! Lots of handy features like a sweeping hole and electric hook up hole. Still not able to find a carpet for it or any add ons such as porch area.

Easy to put up tent - instructions handy sewn into the bag and one of the pods. Sleeping pods held two single air beds or one double bed with room at the end.

The tent survived heavy rain and very strong winds, with only a small amount of water in tent which was condensation which can not be really avoided.

The tent has two doors/porch areas, we used one to store all the kitchen stuff which was really handy.

The doors have a secondry door which acts a insect net so you can have open the porch areas for ventilation in the hotter weather without any bugs coming in.

The middle area was a good enough size for us during the wet weather, we fitted a small camping table and 4 chairs around, we were able to sit round, but not to much more room after that - but then the tent is only a 4 berth tent, so I would not expect more room.

Plus is that the tent roles up really small and fits into the bag provided, with room to spare so this can be used for other storage.

The only negative is that Berghaus do not seem to have made any accessories to support this tent so you can not add an extra porch which in my view would then make this a 10/10 tent with the extra room it would provide.

It does take two people to put up, but I did it with a 12 year old as it is not heavy or does not involve too much lifting. It took about 5 mins to push the poles through then about 5 mins to get up, 10 mins to put the lines in.

There was quite good storage around the tent on the sides, and on the sleeping pods inside and out which proved invaluable for storage.

Great tent.Really looks the part.Excellent quality.Easy to put up with two people.

Dimensions are. Total 570cm long 205cm highest point 170 cm bed room hight 80cm door protrusion 220cm wide.

We did have allot of rain in the lakes, and some small drops of water came in around some seems after a day of hard rain.I fixed them with patches. Not sure how many tents leak a bit? this is my first tent in years. Comfortable and lots of space.
