7 Reviews of the Instant 5 Dome

Got this tent as my previous tent the Coleman instant 4 tourer was just a bit small with all the camping equipment in side and with me being 6 feet tall, was unable to stand up in that one. So purchased the Coleman instant 5. I am able to stand up in this one and enough space for me with all my equipment in side, I would say its more of a 4 man tent.

The poles are different on this one as the joints on the 4 tourer just bend on there own, but on the Coleman 5 you have find the button on the joint to release the poles. But find this tent great to put up and down.

Has a bit of condensation, but soon clears with the door open and there is a foot print available for this tent, which makes it easy to keep the tent clean.

Has electric hook up point on the side.

This tent is larger than most of comparable size when folded, but easy to use more than makes up for it. It really does take only a minute to erect and take down.

I had extremely varied weather: very heavy rain, strong gusty wind, cold nights as well as damp conditions and beautiful sunshine. A good test for 3 nights at Cornwall.

Condensation can be a problem with single skin tents. It could be a problem if you don't allow some air in.

The tent was certainly weather proof and as warm.

Bought this as an easy way to have one night camps and it is fine for that. Bit of confusion over which version we have as the picture of the one ordered is slightly different than the one we have, ours pops up in about a minute but then it has a separate fly sheet which takes about 10 minutes to attach using Velcro straps to the poles , this has to be done when the tent is up but not pegged out as the fly sheet clips into the corner of the poles at the base . The fly sheet also provides a small extra area at the door, enough room for boots etc. Our version can't be used without the fly sheet because the tent wouldn't be waterproof as the middle centre underneath the poles is mesh, not polyester. The separate fly sheet makes it easy to dry though if it rains because this is the only thing that gets wet and can be dried easily at home over a banister or washing line. The dimensions of ours differ from the ones stated on the Coleman website as ours isn't square but rectangular and is slightly smaller. We bought it last year and have only just started using it , otherwise we would have questioned this.

It's a good , easy tent for quick camps but only big enough for two adults in our opinion.

I bought this tent for w/ends away. It's true that its easy to put-up, less than ten mins for 1 person including guying out, unfortunately, in my own experience, thats the only good point.

Being a single skin, condensation can be a real problem.

There were only 2 of us in the tent,(Rynys farm/sept 2016)

Being in a mountainous area it was quite cold in the evening, the degree of condensation in the tent made everything damp and cold, never again !.

These tents are ok for a quick stopover in summer, or a festival.

Great weekend tent for up to 2 adults and 2 smaller children. Enough room for a weekend bag inside, but if you can use your car as a cupboard then you could use this as sleeping-only space for 4 adults. But 5? Hmmm! This tent is light and takes up hardly any space in the car. It does go up in about 1 minute, then another minute to peg and guy. Putting away takes a little longer but only because you have to fold it up to put it back in the bag - it's still well under 5 minutes. As others have said you will get condensation on the inside as it's a single skin tent. There are roof vents but it could do with more. Keep heads, pillows, bags, etc away from the sides and you won't get things damp. It's tall enough to mean you can get dressed in it without having to wriggle clothes on lying on your back. As it's a dome, if it's raining and you open the door the rain will come in. We partner ours with a Coleman Basic Awning which goes all the way over the top and gives us a good 6ft of head-height cover out the front. We can cook and eat there if we need to as there's plenty of room for a table.

We paid £99 for ours and I think if you can get it for anywhere near that then this is a great bit of kit for weekends, events or just for the kids to camp in the garden.

Very easy to pitch and disassemble. The build up of condensation with 3 people in the tent is noticeable but the tent is very waterproof.

We had two adults and an 11 year old in the tent and found this as 'cosy' as we would like it. Doubt very much if you could fit 5 adults and their kit, cooking gear etc.

Very good for a weekend away but we'll continue to use our Outwell Vermont for longer trips.

Fantastically easy to pitch and take down, about two minutes each way. Can be a little difficult initially to force the pole clips down but gets easier with each use. Used in really heavy rain with no ingress. Winds light so can't comment on this. Does suffer from condensation but hey ho. I use with a Vango Adventure Tarp to give shelter over the entrance which improves it considerably. Good tent for quick weekends away. Only seven stars because of the condensation.
