1 Reviews of the Eureka Solitaire

By: Ewen c  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2017   Rating:

I got this cheap, 55.

Plus side. It is relatively light. The price to weight ratio is brilliant. It has aluminium poles rather than fibreglass

Minus side. A lot of mesh which makes it unsuitable for colder months.

It is more a bivvy than a tent. You cannot sit up in it but I managed my rucsac and all my gear inside. There is no front porch, even though it looks like it has one. Cooking in adverse weather is impossible unless you take a small tarp which sort of defeats the purpose as it would make the tent to heavy. Inner and fly are permanently attached but you aren't going to be splitting a tent this small anyway. Condensation was minimal but was there. Again, a problem with all such tents. A vent front and back would help.

This tent has a very American quirk which I doubt I will ever get the chance to use. The fly can be rolled back to reveal the mesh inner. On a warm, dry American night you can lay back stargazing. I live in Ireland. It rains here. I wouldn't risk sleeping out without rain protection. A bonus is, however, that the inner has a roof zip. Very handy for getting gear or a backpacker with a dodgy back in and out of the tent. However, you cannot replace the fly from inside so the front entrance is still required to crawl in and out.And crawl you do.

As a budget lightweight tent, this does the business. I have had it out wild camping and it is unobtrusive and quite Hardy. It is well made and does what it is supposed to do.
