Not to be put off by the American origin of the 'Sportz SUV Tent' I Googled up a storm. First price found to be £399.00 at an 'E-bay Shop'. A few search re-wordings and a dozen results pages later, the more acceptable figure of £250.00 inc.P&P sprung to the fore. My order was taken over the phone to the retailer in the U.K., and a few days later the parcel arrived having been sent from their warehouse in Germany. This is probably the first, and last good reason that I've found for being in the EU.
The tent appealed so's to utilise the load area of my Toyota 4Runner (Bob), as it (he) has a dropdown rear window, and consequently a tailgate that perfectly serves the purpose of a kitchen work surface when teamed up with 'The Resplendant Repeller'.(snap to follow) Unlike those 'Chelsea Tractors' driven by overly petite bottle blondes staring THROUGH the steering wheel like Mixy Rabbits instead of over the top of it, wondering when their bonnets are going to end. The term of phrase 'As Usul As A Chocolate Fireguard' comes to mind when considering a 4x4 without a tailgate. One also is warmed by the deep and meaningful satisfaction that one is driving a TRUCK!
I've had no opportunity to erect the thing yet as the other new arrival (no, not a child) has been occupying my furtive imagination in the form of a 'Coleman Evolva'. With two 'Link Annexes', the conotations are boggling of the mind. (Check out my Evolva review and snaps) Therefore a true review of what I expect to be an interesting, and being American a considerably well built product will have to wait. Needless to say I shall be swearing at shock poles at the earliest opportunity.
All I can say for now is that the mesh porch has no ground sheet, with questionable availability unless you fancy a little import duty. (Get them to mark it 'GIFT') However, from the U.S. Website snaps, I'd say you could get away with a cheap 'n' cheerful tarpaulin. This would then render the porch a useful 6'x7' kitchen/chill-out zone.
Until Bob and tent are as one, I shall leave you with some snaps of Bob on his 'Little Ol' Lonesome' to drool over.
Cooking alfresco is fun in the sun, but the thought of reversing up to a hole in the wall is twice as nice. When the weather ain't.
