3 Reviews of the Baltic Sea L

By: Simon W  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2009   Rating:

Outwell's official photos of this tent are misleading, the tent looks much shorter and taller 'in the flesh', but aside from that this is a cracking medium size tunnel tent thats Polycotton and Simply but well designed.

I was looking for a weekend tent that would be quick to erect and sleep 3. The baby brother of this tent the Baltic Sea M was too small for 3 - so I opted for this. It has a very smart inner tent which will easily accommodate 2 adults and 2 children, hand organiser pockets like our BearLake 6 - you can drop half the bedroom pod if you wish to make room for bikes or luggage - there is an interesting design touch - that the smaller pod has an outer 'O' access door,

Good ventilation, and all the bedroom doors are full meshed - the quality is fine with a decent living space of almost 3m square, Use the side door when the weather is poor, but when its calm the whole front opens to make a great canopy and really shows off this tent to its best.

I didn't have any real issues with the lack of a sewn in groundsheet as there is an excellent bathtub groundsheet supplied. The 3 Fibreglass poles do a decent job of supporting the heavy flysheet, and I would strongly recommend pegging ALL the guys, as wind can get under the flysheet if the full tent isnt fully pegged and secured. Very cosy tent - very similar in size to the Higher Spec 'Trout Lake' but half its price if you shop around - bought mine in the Yeomanns Sale ! - Any negatives - no not really but it takes 2 to erect !.

Very nice tent great for summer use, if your using in the tent for a short period of time during the summer months, and possibly mild other seasonal use it will be fine, the bent metal ferrules on the poles are prone to bending, often after prolonged use it can look very tired. But for general use it will do the job, for the money its a good entry level poly cotton tent, with very little condensation. Its simple design allows it to be great for people starting out in camping. A great little buy for mild wind conditions!

We wanted a polycotton tent that was a reasonable size but not too heavy. Looked at the Outwell Trout Lake with its zipped groundsheet but that was 15 kg heavier and a lot more expensive due to its 3 layer window coverings, steel rather than alloy poles, and other 'bells and whistles'. This tent is the same design and size as the Oregon 5 but polycotton. Good head height, two sections to the inner tent sleeping up to 5 people, and a good sized living area. Just as easy to put up as our son's Oregon 5 although heavier material. Once up with the bathtub groundsheet and carpet it is very cosy and very comfortable. We are delighted with ours. It is our third Outwell tent each different but good for different purposes depending on season, climate of our camping location and length of trip. (Colorado 5, Arizona L and Baltic Sea L).
