I like to camp all year round and this tent is as near a perfect 'one size fits all' for basecamps as any I have found. The quality of construction is as good as Hilleberg. Not a thread out of place, with good quality fabric and zips.
Four doors in the outer and one each side of the inner make for easy access in almost any conditions. One thing that Robens have failed to mention is that as with the standard Goshawk there are 'rear side panels to convert the rear door into a sheltered porch for cooking'. That's the left hand one on the floor plan. The Manufacturer's Description below thinks that is the front door. Go figure.
It's a veritable palace for one with plenty of room for gear and to change out of wet kit. The extra width over tents with a longitudinal sleeping arrangement makes a huge difference. It is designed to sleep two, but will easily take four, possibly five, in an emergency.
The height is not great, but at 170ish cm I can stoop comfortably.
The pole sleeves are closed at one end to simplify pitching. I found this a bit of a struggle at first as the pole tries to conform to the shape of the tent as it goes through. I then realised that the straps that set the distance between the pole ends had quick release buckles. Undoing those gives the pole a straight run. Reconnect when the pole is in place.
The only thing that I think would improve the tent is rain gutters above the doors. There is one beside each of the two front / rear? vents, where they aren't really necessary. None of my Hillebergs have them, so what do I know?
There is one unintentional feature. At 3.7m long, this falls well outside the dimensions permitted for a 'Hiker's Pitch' on my favourite campsite. Not only can both end porches be rolled away for views and ventilation but they can also be collapsed to reduce the length. The problem then goes away, saving £50 a night in peak season. Academic maybe, but you never know!
All I need to do now is get out into the real world and use it.
