4 Reviews of the Palermo

By: Richards family  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2010   Rating:

Faced with prospect of camping with three year old triplets and two dogs we begrudgingly changed our 3 man tent to this larger family friendly one. Great as can stand up in it, roomy in lounge area but found sleeping bays bit restricted. Need rock pegs in wind as tent nearly blew down and one of inner sleeping bays ripped away from seem, but this could happen in any tent. Rain and wind together meant lounge area was little wet as not sewn in and as no space in sleeping bays for much else but you, some things got wet. Will be taking rock pegs next time and will put ground sheet in last to make sure leaks and drafts keep to a minimum. Will also be purchasing hanging rails for wet coats to dry and will remember dog beds for lounge so they don't have to sleep with us! Porch is also handy to shelter from wind.

I have owned this tent for 2 yrs.

Plus: Large and roomy. Ample space for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Light fills the tent through windows. Can enter or exit through either of 3 doors. Sturdy in high winds. Large living area enough to have family dinner in comfort.

Minus: Heavy to carry. Too many structural poles 17 in total. Next to impossible to assemble in any sort of breeze. Ground sheet not sewn in therefore drafty.

Overall very happy with purchase, but now looking for something less complicated to assemble, lighter and sewn in ground sheet.

The tent was used summer 2009 on the cliff tops of Crows Nest overlooking the sea. Spacious, took 2 adults 2 teenagers and 2 labs. Withstood gale force winds and a couple of heavy downpours. It has a sun canopy that removes to the front but ideal for cool evenings or for cooking. I would advise better ground pegs, we bought the heavy duty plastic for grass pitching and use your guide ropes!

We have just bought the Skandika palermo, from eBay for £144 plus £19 p&p. It was delivered in 3 days.

We have not camped in it, but we set it up in the park as our garden is to small. It took 2 of us half an hour.

Its nice and airy. The photo of my hubby next to the tent is for size comparison, he is 6ft3. (not for husband comparison, lol)

I will say, the bedrooms are small & not sure if you would be able to keep your clothes bags in there while sleeping.

We are off camping next week in this fantastic summer, (lol)and will let you guys know how we get on weather wise etc

Manufacturer's Description

The Palermo is a great tent for group or family holidays.

The tent has a floor space of over 10 sq.m. – plenty of room for 5 people. The generous headroom allows for back-friendly movement around the tent. The living area has 4 panorama windows. The clever combination of mosquito net at the top and transparent PVC at the bottom of the windows is the key to the bright and airy feeling in the tent. All the windows can also be closed with a flap.

Using the awning included in the pack you can create a cosy loggia. The two separate sleeping cabins accommodate up to 5 people. Should you require sleeping space for less than 5 people, simply omit one of the cabins, giving you more living and storage space.

The groundsheet for the tent is included and can be fixed to the ground by means of eyelets so that everything stays in place. The groundsheet covers the whole inner area of the tent, even under the sleeping cabins.

Breathable inner tent material. Fresh air allows for an ideal indoor climate in all weathers.

Extra resilient water column. The water column describes the quality and strength of the tent coating: the higher the water column, the more water resistant the coating (… and the higher the price). A tent is considered waterproof at 1,200 mm (47.2"). Water columns below this level are available, but the difference in quality is obvious as soon as it rains heavily.
The Palermo model provides a 5,000 mm (197") water column thanks to innovative PU-coated polyester, which also makes the tent UV-resistant and particularly weather resistant.

The tent comes in a handy pack, complete with numerous accessories such as guy ropes, tent pegs and assembly instructions.

The Palermo – enjoy camping with your family and friends.
