1 Reviews of the Sapphire 500 Air Plus

By: Bramas  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2014   Rating:

Having owned a Vango Icarus 500 pole tent for many years, I decided it was time to upgrade and I had my sights set on an air tent. Following several trips to various camping stores I ruled out the equivalent Vango airbeam due to it's flimsy feeling material to both the outer & ground sheet. Having then looked at several other competitors in the rapidly growing air tent market, I narrowed it down to the Sunncamp Sapphire 500 plus Air-Volution. The spec says it's a 5 berth, but like most tents, in reality this means it's a comfortable 3 birth, of which the bedroom area can be one large space or split into two with the zipped in divider.

If you aren't used to air tents, I really can't praise them enough, in terms of a speedy, hassle free pitch up & down. The Sunncamp 500 is great in that it has only 3 beams, all of which took me (a medium built woman) approx 5 mins to inflate with the dummy proof gauged pump, which has a clever dump valve so you cannot over inflate past the recommended 5psi. You'll also be amazed how quickly it deflates and top marks to Sunncamp for providing a decent sized bag, so you can pack away easily.

The 2014 model features thicker material & 4 storm straps which really sets the tent above the rest, making it feel very sturdy. We camped in moderate rain & wind & the tent felt secure with no leaks.

The mainly blue colour is modern & fresh, it also keeps the bedroom quite dark, however, the lighter colour living space roof panel makes the tent feel bright and airy. It's also an impressive 210cm high, unlike the Vango which feels very low.

The main reason I am writing this tent review, is there doesn't seem to be any, which I don't understand as it really is a great air tent. I would give it a 10/10, but I need to test it a bit more with time.

To sum up, I would recommend this well designed and manufactured tent to anyone wanting a quick, hassle free pitch & to feel confident should the weather take a turn for the worse.
