8 Reviews of the Albany 800

We've had this tent for a couple of years and really pleased with it. The bedrooms are a good size and the living area is big enough for 4 adults, 2 kids and 2 dogs when its raining!

The vented windows and bedroom doors mean that air flow is possible on hot days, though on the few occasions that it is really warm in the UK then it does get stuffy!

The packed size is also impressive, considering the size of the tent.

We bought this in a sale for £180, as we needed a larger tent to take the kids camping. We have a 3yo & a 1yo & decided to get something we could grow into! The living area is huge, plenty of space for the kids to play if it's rainy. At the moment DH & I sleep at opposite ends with a kid each, but the plan is when they are a bit bigger that they will have one end with a bedroom each & we will have a huge bedroom at the other!

It's a quick & simple to erect tunnel construction & we found it pretty stable in strong winds when properly guyed (assisted by delta pegs of course!) A door at each side & the option of mesh vents on all 4 sides & on the inners means it's easy to keep well ventilated in hot weather.

The only downside we found was that in heavy rain it rains in when you open the door (the Tigris, which is basically an upgraded Albany has a 'lip' above the door to stop this).

We also wanted somewhere to store the cooking stuff etc outside the main tent, so we added a Gelert Horizon 6&8 Porch this year, which fits perfectly (even virtually the same colour blue too!) and gives us an ideal set up for what we need.

We are very happy with this tent so far, so a 9/10 from us :)

Excellent all round tent & al tell you y! remember Friday 17th July 2009? Well that was rain day in England & yes we were camping! Ha Ha you may say, but guess what? not a drop of rain in our tent & to me that was fantastic so unless you were in an exotic country I need say no more. This is a tent that does what it says on the tin. Thank you.

We bought our Albany 800 last Autumn for £199. We also got the Sun Canopy, carpet and footprint. I've pitched it 3 times and found it quite quick and easy to put up even with 3 excited children 'helping'. The Sun Canopy is a bit of a fiddle - but that is probably more about me than the Sun Canopy! Although the instructions are not that clear.

We found the tent itself to be roomy the 4 sleeping compartments were a must for us and the Albany 800 does this really well with these. On a wet day we took the divider down between the kids compartments and piled their airbeds up and they had quite a big play area. The main compartment is roomy and easily took all our stuff and enough room for us all to sit round the table.

The door on both sides is a good feature as it can provide really good ventilation on a hot day. We had 1 day of quite steady rain any this presented no problems at all.

My only criticism is that the carpet does not attach to anything and as such quickly became rumpled (not sure if that's a word but you know what I mean!)

On the whole I feel this is a really good tent and would recommend it to anyone with 3 children.

We looked at a lot of family tents before settling on this one. We were considering not only the berths we needed, but also how easy to carry and what space it would take up. Having camped a lot in the past we knew what we were looking for. What we particularly liked about this tent was the fact that the sleeping areas were at either end of the tent - important for privacy from a 4 year old! The outwells and others we looked at had the sleeping areas at the same end and only separated by a thin divide. We used this tent twice in 2008 and have been really impressed with space and versatility. Highly recommended. We paid £199 from Norwich camping.

Great tent, me and oh took our two grandchildren to barmouth in august.Massive bedrooms, and very spacious living area. Had a couple nights heavy rain but no inner wet parts at all.All poles colour coded to make erecting easy. Vango supply a dvd showing how to erect and dismantle, very helpful. No complaints at all,a must for anyone wanting a larger tent

I returned to camping last year and bought this tent in a sale. It's been absolutely great - camped twice this year in the lakes both times with high winds, the second time with heavy rain. The tent was stable and dry, in contrast to a couple of others! Sleeping pods are roomy and can easily accommodate us with our gear. I take the kids on my own and my 14 year old and I can pitch this in 20 mins. Head room is great and you can cook inside. I

We bought this tent from www.Campingontyne.Com in a Weekend Sale for £199 . At present we are somewhat camping virgins! We camped at Keilder and although this tent is an eight berth and approximately 8 meters long we had it set up in no time at all. The fibreglass poles have curved connectors which was a godsend when bending the poles to fit the tent. It took two of us half an hour to erect and most of this was securing the guy ropes as there are approximately twenty of them-that said -when the wind blew the tent never budged. It has a four berth bedroom either end that can be split into two rooms-each would comfortably take two double airbeds, and a riser groundsheet that was excellent at keeping out bugs and draughts. The living area is spacious-around 10ft by 6ft and headheight was around six foot so enough room for all. It rained constantly(heavily) two night we were there and there was not a drop got through this tent. I was very impressed and will be using it frequently in the future. It is also really easy to take down and packs easily into the oversized bag provided. We have no complaints at all about this tent and would highly recommend it to anyone.A 10 out of 10 from us.
