1 Reviews of the Jura 500

By: DrMaggieS  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2015   Rating:

We wanted something smaller and lighter than our Montana which we sold and this ticked the boxes. I ordered the tent by mail order and put is up in our garden on my own (51 year old lady) in 15 minutes so delighted with that, and the front door protector which gives some protection from rain entering when you go in and out. The bedroom divider is just hung by 4 pegs so fairly useless as our kids crawled underneath. It has had 2 outings, the first a weekend in June which confirmed it was what we wanted, so we then purchased the awning extension. Ventilation is an issue, and on a cold and wet August bank holiday with the awning up we had the main tent door on flyscreen only mode. It would be better if one of the side windows could also be a flyscreen to improve the ventilation in hot weather or climes as the tent heats up and there is only the front door and 2 low side vents to cool it down - not a problem minus the awning but more when the awning is up. It loses a second point for being mean on flyscreens on the bedroom doors - just a small part of the inner tent door can be unzipped to leave a flyscreen at the top, it would be better if all inner tent doors could also be flyscreen only for hotter nights.

Sadly tent groundsheet leaked leading to damp bedding over the very wet weekend despite the presence of the the footprint, and one of the seams on the awning parted company by a clip so some manufacturing faults which Vango will need to deal with, but I will be requesting replacement not repair.

The awning is an excellent extension, comes with a separate groundsheet, but again a side door or unzippable window would reduce the greenhouse effect in hotter (and dryer) climes.

The presence of a side opening window or flyscreen would have given this 10 out of 10, I am not marking it down for manufacturing faults. It doesn't bend in the wind (the main arch supports being steel) and with the awning extension is plenty big enough for our family,
