1 Reviews of the Lauder 500

By: Domjolly  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2015   Rating:

Used for first night. Reasonably easy to pitch, single handedly ok - but tunnel designed a tension needed by end guys to get poly upright as arcs.

Inner tent is black/dark, but disappointed to find it didn't hold out the light.

As expected, was still a hot tent despite appealing to me with the light green fly.

Single entrance to front is convenient with fly net.

Inner tent has fully sewn in ground sheet extending as a groundsheet for vestibule by clip in to fly, overlapping mud flaps / sod skirts. Unfortunately, heavy rain during night meant a little water ran down across the skirts and collected at the door obtop of the groundsheet. This was due to pitching up on a sloped pitch (no choice as set) and tent entrance facing downhill so any ground water would drain past and not in. If groundsheet was fully seven/zipped, this would be fine. Except I found quite a bit of water on the inside of the fly. This may have been condensation but I do ensure all fly vents are open during night.

For a cheapish tent is say this serves well for overnighter, long weekend - with 1 adult and 2 kids, but pushing it for 2 adults + 2 kids, despite being a '5 man.' But all tent makers are assuming men are kids and have no possessions when they declare berths!

Recommendations to improve this tent: quick dry poly cotton and with bigger integral sun canopy as an option for another 140 - and I might say this is a good option.

As with all polyester tents, I find them ridiculously hot in the day to the extent they are unusable. Unfaiir to pin that opinion on this model of tent I know. But it is meant for all poly tents!

With all this in mind, 7/10 is fair.

Previous poly tent was a similar model to Icarus but by easy camp called Milano 500. They never pitched neatly issue with tension on some poles, but it did serve us for a handful of short camps.
