1 Reviews of the Utopia Air TC 500

By: SteveEssex  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2019   Rating:

I have the 2019 model. I bought it at the start of 2020 at a discount. The 2020 Utopia II Air TC 500 differs only in that it is a different colour and it uses a darker fabric for the bedrooms. Being an inflatable polycotton tent, this is not light, but I can move it on my own. The wheeled bag helps, though it could do with a longer handle - I have to stoop to wheel it. It is quick and easy to put up and it feels well made. The use of storm straps rather than guy ropes all round makes it feel solid.

I have not had it pitched in bad weather, but in a moderate breeze it hardly moves at all. On hot days it gets warm inside, but it does not have the close sweaty feel that you get from being in a polyester tent.

The one aspect of it that some might see as a downside is that it has only a very small lip over the front door (kept in shape with an alloy pole), rather than a larger shelter for cooking, etc. I have got round this by using a Vango Family Shelter and a Vango Family Windbreak to form a large sheltered area at the front which is plenty big enough for a camp kitchen, dining table and chairs and a sun lounger.

I use the tent for me and my two boys (11 and 8) plus a cockapoo. The tent is a comfortable size for us. As is always the way, it would feel crowded if used for it's supposed full complement of 5 people. We go on quite a lot of camping holidays, so I think this tent will serve us well, as it is comfortable and durable.
