6 Reviews of the Soul 200

Interesting comments. I bought this 3 years ago for bike touring. I've used it several times since then and more recently on an actual bike tour and I have to be honest. I hated it. Too small, I can't really sit up. Getting changed ( I'm in my 60's now) is really hard work, the tent is too hot and the venting it limited. I sat outside until late waiting for the inside to cool. Maybe fine for younger, smaller and more flexible people, or those who like to be warm when they sleep, but I'll be giving it to my son and buying myself a more spacious, better ventilated and better quality tent.

Vango soul 200 good for price and weather, rain, wind, resistance, warm for 1 person inside .Good flysheet but tent materials moderate. Poles keep splitting so have spares. I replaced end poles with same thickness as front and made new apex with 125mm x 13mm copperpipe inserting metal < fiberglass pole> sleeves bedded in epoxy/resin filler.Have now replaced end poles with alloy poles which work well.I have worn out sleeve for long front pole so stitched new sleeve to it.I preferr black fly for low profile camping. I have bought another as a spare, target price £40 or less !.Use alloy v pegs.BLUE DIAMOND make good steel v pegs

This is an ideal tent for one or even 2 with kit the porch area is latge enough to store all kit my tent has 3 air vents 2 at front and one at rear it is very good in all weathers and quick to erect I timed the complete set up in under 4 minutes it is very roomy and has good ventilation so less condensation build up the only downside is when opening the outer door after it has rained is water comes into the inner tent but after the first time I soon learned to tap on the door to knock off any excess water and all is fine all in all a good tent.

I got this one in the search for a decent motorbike tent for one tall person. I agree with the previous reviews- the tent is fine for one person, but two would struggle, even without any kit in the tent. I can stretch my 6'2' full length in it, but only just. I found the tent quite claustrophobic. I could sit up at one end but getting stuff from the other end of the tent involved yoga moves if the door wasn't unzipped. The porch can only just take one pair of boots.

It is a budget tent, accepted, but having to tie the outer to the inner with tape bows is a bit cheap even so. The door zip had a tendency to get caught in the overlap. A pain if it rains.

I sold it. I will stick with my old £10 Tesco dome tent, which is 400gm heavier and made of cheap materials, but for my purposes is a better tent.

I have just spent nearly a fortnight with this tent cycling from Cherbourg to St Malo. I have bent one tent peg and lost the paper picture in the window in the tent bag.

I am 6'2', I fill the left side of the tent my kit fills the other side. The tent has enough ventilation so I wake up without a headache. When it rained I stayed dry, when it was cold I stayed warm but got a little condensation, It never really got that windy but the tent seems stable and low enough to stay up.

Changing my shorts was a problem, the tent got really hot as soon as I shut the door (during the day) lying on my back it was really hard to wriggle out of one pair of shorts and into another, my knees scraping the roof.

My cycle shoes, sandals, stove, mess kit and tent bag fitted into the porch.

Ideal as a one man summer hike/cycling tent, if I was using a single fixed site I would use a bigger tent even if I had to carry it there.

I was curious to see if this tent was a viable tent at this low price. Firstly it has a reputable name, Vango, who have never let me down in the past.

Straight out of the box I could tell the Soul was made out of good polyester and the seams are well taped. The poles are fibreglass, not aluminium, but the tent still weighs just under 2.0 kgs,on my scales - less than many expensive 2 person tunnel tents.

It is put up inner first, but is so quick to slot in the two poles and tie the outer on, in a shower it does not matter too much. The outer streched over the top makes for an extremely stable and tent, making the skeleton rigid, once the guys are in place. The tent does not move much, even in a strong breeze.

The downsides are few. There is front venting ,but an extra vent in the rear would be better. The porch is small for two, however it is adequate for one person. When raining the door must be kept partially closed, or water will get in the tent, but I could name many tents like this.

Room wise, as can be seen from a photo, two thermarests will fit in and my 5 ft 8 ins frame can sit up in it.

Yes two people CAN sleep in it. One is better.

This tent is much more than a cheap starter tent. It will give anyone starting backpacking a real feel for the joy of the trail without breaking their wallet. Well done Vango. This tent is sold everywhere, so you might get it cheaper. Highly recommended.
