Just planning our honeymoon with caravan - 3 weeks going 1st september.
Awaiting arrival of a book on the canal but just thought i would ask for some reccomendations from you all.
We want to spend some of the time near the coast Agde area then maybe 2 sites further up the canal then move to Dordogne for last 5 days, will be staying at soleil plage in dordogne but need some help with other 2 sites, also need a site thats a days drive from dunkirk near the motorway/main route.
Thanks, J x

Camping Neptune at Grau d'Agde (Camping Cheques) is ideal for the Canal du Midi. There's a cycle path just outside the site, one way takes you down to the beaches at Grau d'Agde - and the other into the town of Agde itself, where you can cycle along the Canal du Midi in either direction for as long as you want!
Further along, I've heard good reports of the muncipal site at Trebes - where friends have stayed, but we haven't stayed or visited the site.
There's also Camping La Cite at Carcassonne if you want to visit the Old Cite - gets you there nice and early before the crowds arrive.
Hi, we have travelled up the A61 from Narbonne towards Toulouse a few times and have always stopped at a small Campsite near to Castelnaudry which is just South of Toulouse, it is in the Caravan Club Europe guide book, it is about 15mins from MW and about 10 mins from Canal Midi.It is only a small site close to some Gites but with very clean facilities and a very friendly owner who arrives about 6-00pm each night to collect the money, he doesn,t speak much English but has always been very pleasant to us.
The site is called Camping Rural La Domaine dela Capelle at ST Papoul, webbsite is lacapelle1 at aol.com hope this is some use.All the best for your Wedding
Yes, a great thread for sites along the Canal du Midi. In that thread mention is made of the Municipal at Meilhan sur Garonne; it is a super little site, right by the canal. Very cheap too and very quiet. There is also a site at Villeneuve les Beziers, not far from Beziers itself. You can cycle to Beziers from there, and it is a lovely ride.
Have spent a few weeks cycling along the canal, it is fantastic!. Might well go back on one of our trips this year, just thinking about it makes me want to go back again!

It depends on how you want to get to the canal from that site. We stayed there a few years ago and it is a lovely site.
But cycling from there to the canal is quite a distance, I think the 10 minutes you mention must be by car!! When we did it, it must have taken us about half an hour or more (and we are experienced cyclists), as well as that, you need to cross the very busy N113, not something I'd recommend. But if you want to go to the canal by car and park up there and then get on your bike, fine, it's a great base. However, we have a motorhome and so prefer sites where we have close access to the canal (or wherever we want to cycle).
We had intended staying on that site a few days, but after cycling from there to Castelnaudary, which was really nice BTW, and finding that we had to cross that busy road every time we wanted to get to the canal we only stayed the 1 night and moved a bit further south, to Villeneuve les Beziers.
Thank you for all the above, the planning head is now on and OH will be googel earthing the area soon. anybody any ideas for the overnight stop a day from dunkirk? J x

Will watch out for clogs on pedals Ina. We are almost certainly canalling again somewhere and also some voies vertes.
All sites we've overnighted in on our way south. There are others further south, and others further north. Pictures of some on the thread 'Pictures of your Pitches'.
Camping de Nevers takes Camping Cheques, the others are cheaper or around the same as the ACSI price - except for Camping de Sologne, which is more expensive - but we like it there and are willing to pay that bit extra occasionally.
I would say that en-route we don't go out of our way to find Camping Cheque or ACSI sites - most municipal sites are about that price or less, and perfectly adequate for overnighting. They usually have the advantage of being walking distance into town and generally there's a supermarket nearby for cheaper fuel.
Many 'destination' campsites are out in the country somewhere, and can mean lengthy detours from major routes.

Hi oxter!
As usual we're unsure of where to go at this stage, but must admit that the Canal du Midi looks likely for one of our 2 trips this year. Last September we stayed at Montech for a few days, but that was en route from the Aveyron to the Pyrenees, didn't go anywhere else on the canal.
We loved it at the municipal at Meilhan sur Garonne, and at around 10 Euros a night it's cheap into the bargain. May even go as far as Agde, not been there for a few years now, although our philosophy usually is that if the weather is good where we are, why travel any further south?
A small addition to this old thread. We stayed at at the ACSI site at Deyme just south of Toulouse- Les Violettes. Short hop to the canal with a really good aggregate concrete track for at least 25km in both directions. (I have suggested adding Violettes to the database and will review when published - it’s good)
Hi to anyone still following this thread. 🚲
Can’t believe you lot have regurgitated this old thread. We were on our honeymoon trip. Only had 3 weeks. Seems a long long time ago. Have done a lot of cycling on c d m since and found that a lot of the paths are poor. Good sites at Trebes for cycling up into Carcassonne.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
