Charlie our adopted Taiwan dog had to be PTS yesterday, she suddenly developed kidney failure, but thinking about it, she hadn't been herself for a while. We are away too. Loved her so much.

Oh that’s so sad when it happens: the dog shaped hole, the imagined noise but no dog when you turn to look.
Have you still got your old lab? He’ll be grieving too.
Thanks Fiona, Harry is still with us at nearly 18 which is great, but he's on steroids so maybe not much longer. Harry didn't like Charlie very much but he has been looking for her. She was half his size but dominated him.
Sorry for your loss.
Grieve for Charlie and feel the emptiness of your home, then decide if you want another dog to take his place.
My brother's betrothed breeds Australian labradoodles, his new home is full of friendly and inquisitive dogs that rush up to say "Hello" then rush around hoping for treats and attention.
The new-born puppies are so tiny and vulnerable. I'm not a dog person but there is an urge to take one of these cute little dogs home with me.
Thanks both, don't think we will have another dog when Harry goes, but you never know. These are/were both "adopted" so maybe that will happen again, or maybe we will get a cat, always used to have them.
Thanks Ficklejade, she was very much my dog, it's a characteristic of Taiwan dogs to latch on to one person and guard them, me in other words. They are used as guard dogs in Taiwan. Most are not actually pure bred; Charlie had smaller ears than is typical.
