Further to previous post daughter collecting Volvo tomorrow from large Volvo dealership
Her part ex car had been in daily use but has needed coolant water topping up weekly. It’s an 8 yr old Quashqai
So, does she tell them about the water topping up or not.
The dealer will no doubt put car out to trade.
Part ex figure and finance already agreed.
There is just the change over to do, tomorrow
The answer to my question might be obvious .. or not ?
Thanks

Say nothing. The trade in price will reflect potential risks and it will either have been sold to trade already or will be off to auction.

To me, NO!
The dealership has already seen the car and were happy with it's condition or they wouldn't have offered the current deal.

Perhaps not the moral high ground, but keep quiet! Deal done as seen.

The dealer will have factored in 'tinkering' costs, but will try and deduct further for anything declared, or even pull out if they see big cost!
They will almost certainly not fix anything before passing it on anyway (to another trader or auction, probably too old to put on own forecourt!). Only looser at risk will be you!

Depending of the dealership its possible they will sell the car on at auction. If they do will they say anything?

Checking and topping up the water/oil/tyre pressures etc was one of the things I used to do every week, from owning my first car for a lot of years.
One might argue that it's no different to blowing up the tyres when needed???

The saying is buyer beware. Hence sold as seen etc. At 8 years old, the Volvo dealer will move it on smart-ish, especially as it’s not a Volvo. The leak could have started only the day before the car was handed over, so you might not even be aware.

That car will go to Auction as my son in law works for a main dealer and he sorts trade ins as to there destination Auction or good and new enough for the forecourt. Whoever buys it from the Auction if a small item like that only will have a good purchase. I could tell stories of what some motors are auctioned on with.

I agree with the others - No.
When selling a car, privately or to a dealer, the onus lies upon the buyer to make checks, and the seller's responsibility is to make sure that no false information is given and no misleading answers in response to any questions.
The dealer will have assumed that an 8 year old car will have some issues and will have factored this into the exchange offer.
