Katie, Mac was right, I would have loved to post on this thread.... and I would have put the snowy pic up! :-)
We actually went BECAUSE the snow was forecast, not despite of it! It was meant as a one off "just to see what it was like", but we'd definitely do it again. In fact, I'd wager we'll be disappointed to miss out this coming winter. That pic was this last February, btw, if memory serves.
As more of a tempter for you, this was last October....
And better still, this was the first weekend last December...
Note the shadows.... you know what that means!!
Admittedly, we use a fan heater approx Oct to March, and we have These bad boys to sleep in, which are a bulky pack size, but if you have the room!!!
Another thing we like to do, although not essential, is go somewhere like Beech Croft, which have a shower block to die for.... spacious, spotless, modern, constant hot water.... oh yeah, and the small matter of underfloor heating.
Went 3 or 4 times last winter, and never shivered in the loo/shower block once.
The only price is, the tent field is closed in the winter, so hardstanding it is (see above pic from December).
Get yersen an extra footprint/cheap B&Q tarp as additional protection against the stones.
Go for it, Katie. It's a wonderful experience, and for us at least, it felt like an achievement! :-)
Hey Mucker,I got a TFGear peachskin sleeping bag cover for 35 Quid,underneath you it feels like down and on top gives another couple of seasons,waterproof too folds down small and comes in a canvas bag

thank you Mucker. Sadly my season ended up in a disaster, but being a snow freak. I can't imagine anything better then to snuggle in a tent covered in snow.
Snuggling in a tent surrounded by snow is great. It can be a bit disconcerting waking up sodden because the weight of the snow pushed the fly onto the inner. I don't know if it was condensation or the weight of the snow but I now know that hollofill does keep you warm when wet.
Then there is the small matter of defrosting stuff like bootlaces. Great
I usually go right upto October but it really does depend on the weather because me and my daughter really feel the cold even with ehu.
Ifg we get the odd nice weekend over next few weeks Ill consider it but I was sat here last night with heater and fire on at home lol!
