Had a look at the Monty 6 with canopy in Outdoor World this afternoon, not very impressed. I can only see it being a sun blind as anything else will just come in, we dont get vertical rain so no good there either. I would go for the full extension, if pegged down properly it should be sound in anything except a head on gale.

We have a Montana 6 and bought the canopy before the extension was available.  However, we've had problems with the rain coming in under the canopy - particularly annoying when you're trying to cook - and have decided to buy an extension this year.

Hi Kateboo , we have both the extension and the front canopy for our montana 6

We bought our montana 6 and a front canopy back in 2006 , before the extensions were available  , a limited number of extensions for the montana 6 became available early in 2007 , liked the look of it and we were lucky enough to get one , so have already camped throughout the 2007 season with the extension .

The extension is worth it's weight in gold in my opinion , especially when it rains , and lets face it , this is the uk , it does rain quite a bit .

Everytime we used it in 2007 we had montana owners come over and ask about it , and ask where they could buy one from .

I have to say , since buying the extension , our front canopy has become somewhat redundant and we havent used it since 2006 , I have been told that the front canopy will fit onto the extension , should we want to , though have never tried it , never felt the need .

We use Delta pegs on the guys , and also peg through the ring on the ring & pins , and have never experienced any problems with it lifting  , though , as Cliff has said , if we found ourselves in a "head on " gale , I wouldn't pitch it or I would take it off till it had passed .

Thinking back to 2006 , when we last used the front canopy , we put windbreaks along the sides  creating a  extension , if you will , so on that note the front extension gets our vote .

we have just got a good deal on the canopy from Go Outdoors and were going to get a high wind brake to put round it as we didnt think you got that much extra space with the canopy. have seen it pitched and you only seem to get 1.5m extra space,  but,   after reading the above we just might be taking it back to get the extension.

Hi

I totally agree with Dave+Angela - we bought our monty 6 and extension - yes it is worth it's weight in gold - we cook under ours and me and him indoors put the kids to bed and sit under here with a nice glass of wine by candlelight before retiring for the night.

We went to Greenhills last year and somebody had the canopy and when they saw our extension came over to have a look - I would imagine they will have bought one this year.

I think we are likely to see alot more extensions this year. We recommend that you buy the extension and carpet   now.

Really cannot wait to go camping!!!!!!!!!!!

Similar situation, when we bought our Monty, we got the front canopy and the side canopy. With the side canopy reaching the floor, we use this to cook under (also had it hooked up at the front once). Never used the front canopy, but bought an extension at the Caravan, Boat and Outdoor Show at the NEC recently so will be trying that out this year.

We will see how we get on with th eExtension and maybe I might have a front canopy up for grabs later in the summer.

Roll on the school half term holiday at the end of May when "our camping season" begins.

Martin

For the extra £20 the extension has to win, it it so useful and I would'nt leave home without mine.
Have you seen the pics I posted a couple of months ago?

Hi all,

having read your reviews we are extremely tempted by the extension however as i understand it it will make the tent nearly 8 1/2 metres long. Can you overlap the extension with the tent to shorten it? Only ask as our first ever trip is to Polmanter and they say tents have to be under 8m including guy ropes.

I know Irn Bru is off to the same site - are there anyways of making it smaller for the trips where they have size restrictions or does it not really matter as it is just oversize?.

Don't really want to buy it if i can't use it.

Thanks for your advice
