I'm planning to walk the Leeds & Liverpool Canal and stay in campsites along the way. One section where I'm struggling to find a site is between Blackburn and Burnley—it's about a 30 km stretch.
I found a great option at Smithson's Farm, but their website is currently down for maintenance, and they haven’t responded to my emails. I understand they might just be busy and will get back to me in due course, but just in case that falls through, I’d like to have a backup plan.
Does anyone know of any campsites in this area that are accessible from the canal? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Welcome to UKCS. I did a Site Search, making 3 assumptions: tent, shower, toilet. Yes, within 5 miles of Burnley, you have mentioned the only one. Within 5 miles of Blackburn, there’s another called Brocklehead (and a second: a naturist club).
Someone might know of a Certificated Site or Certificated Location that’s not listed in the directory here - you may have to join either Club to use it.
Might be a night to treat yourself to a stay in a pub…
Thank you very much, can you go into a bit more detail about "Certificated Site or Certificated Location" I'm very new to camping. I've always done most of my hiking from hotels.

CS - small site listed under Camping & Caravanning Club CCC (more likely to have tent / camping pitches & a toilet)
CL - small site listed under Caravan & Motorhome Club CAMC (less likely to have tent pitches & a toilet, caters more - but not exclusively - to self-contained caravans & motorhomes that use their own on-board facilities).
I checked CCC website and there's Rossendale Motorhome & Camping at Burnley, which is a CS with backpacker facilities. Swinshaw Farm, Rossendale BB4 8RB.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
