Hi

It's a nice site, but expanding in favour of statics.  However, it's got an indoor swimming pool and  sauna, and it's not far from Culzean Castle. Lovely views of the Clyde Coast.

Haven't been to The Ranch but have driven past it. Not much to do locally unless you use your car. I would be more inclined to use the Caravan Club site Craigie Gardens in Ayr. You can access same attractions by car plus short walk takes you into town centre and beach areas. There is also CCC site at Culzean Castle which has extensive walks and easy access to local attractions.

Hi Charles i think the fact that it has a large proportion of statics maybe putting me off, find sometimes it can be a bit clicky with the regulars.

Joe thanks for reply i think you may have made my mind up with 2 young children we need a bit more locally rather than driving everwhere. We like to get out and about for a walk.

thanks herald

The nearby Dumfries and Galloway area of Scotland is fabulous, herald - a bit like the Lake District but without the crowds, and I'd recommend you go there rather than Ayrshire (although that part of the country is nice, too).

However, one of the attractions of D&G for me is that it's not particularly "touristy" - there are some good family attractions (check out Mabie Park Farm, for instance) but to get the most out of the area you have to be into history and countryside. Oh, and the coastline is stunning in fine weather.

Hi Herald, Ayrshire just has the one 'E'.

There is a UKCS Meet at Maybole in June.

Quite a number of the Scottish UKCS Members use a number of the caravan sites around Ayr and Girvan, each prefering their favourite site over the others for their own reasons.

No site is going to be any better or any worse than any other site, just different and better suited for some than for others.

If your looking for Quiet, then I suggest the Walled Garden at Maybole;-
http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=1745
which although it has a private residents clubhouse (Fri eve and Sat eve only), it is a quiet and laid back site set amongst the grounds of a private estate yet within easy reach af Girvan, Maybole, the Burns Trail and Ayr.

This was us at the Walled Garden early last year.

Ifyou like quiet sites and quiet places the CC site at New England bay is brilliant. Lots of space, direct acces to a large wide sandy beach. and it is just down the coast from Ayr about 10 miles south of Stranraer.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Stranraer is over 50 miles south of Ayr and there are a great many beautiful and quiet sites between the two towns all along that particular coastline.
