Slightly bizarre request when I already live in Somerset, but looking to go on long weekend this coming May Bank Holiday but only want to go somewhere reasonably local to avoid unnecessarily long journeys.
I live in the Mendip area of Somerset and can get to Dorset or Devon within an hour.
Can anyone recommend any nice sites (preferably small and non commercial) that might fit the bill?
Try looking at Newberry Valley Park (also know as Newberry Farm) in Coombe Martin on the Site Review pages - very quiet, little provisions but only 5mins walk to village and beach. Also a little further along towards Illfracombe is Mill Park touring & Camping Park - look at their reviews. Secluded, 15mins walk to beach, very steeeeeep steps (be warned) but lovely Site with nice 'Bistro/Cafe'.

Holmans wood have a lovely camping meadow, it is near the loos and has a water tap very close by. Lots of wildlife on site, I spent last weekend watching all manner of birds including 2 woodpeckers.

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Even nearer is Batcombe Vale..magical!! Reviewed here. In Dorset is Monkton Wyld camp site near lyme Regis. Very pretty also and this time of year with beautiful bluebell woods near site. Also reviewed here.
Why not review Wilksworth Farm Caravan Park, Wimborne, Dorset. Stayed there a few years ago, one of the nicest sites we've stayed on, certainly without a doubt, at the time the cleanest showers, toilets and Site we've ever been too.

Dornafield is just outside Newton Abbott on the way to Totnes. We've stayed there many times and it's beautiful. The bathroom facilities are amazing, the site is stunning and the staff lovely.
The only downside is the mile or so you have to drive from Two Mile Oak. It's a very narrow lane and if you meet another caravan coming the other way it's impossible.

I have stayed at Dornafield even though I live just 3 mins away from it! Its really lovely and COYI is correct when she/he says the bathroom facillities are fantastic.
It's also right about the approach road but lets hope if you do meet anyone it's just me!! I'll let you through.
freshwater beach in burton bradstock in dorset is the best campsite i have stayed at! We live only 20 miles away from it and go every year in early september.......it is always clean with roomy pitches, great for kids!
