Dose any one know of a site that encourages drinking smoking BBQ tairing up and down on motor bikes noisey kids and geral disfuntional familys that dont tell u where u park just find a spot and get on with it and dont rip u off.
im sick of most sites they dont mind robbing u the only site i found thats worth a look is the big meadow near combe martin not much on it but realy nice people running it daves well alright lets u get on with it no problems even runs the kids around on tractor and only 8 pounds a nite.
After reading this i thought i'd tell you about a site we call in whilst away at Bristol. I telphoned them first (5mins earlier) but was told they were full. We passed it and called in to have a look anyway, my OH went to reception for price list and just asked if they had any pitches. The bloke walked around the counter ... to the front door.... looked out and asked "which is your car mate ?" ... !!!! When he pointed it out he said 'yes we have a few, i'll show you which ones.' My OH said we'd be in touch but came out (he'd face on, lol). As you can tell we didn't go back. But its a good job we'd taken the Rolls Royce out that day !!!!! LOL. Not wanting to get in trouble for naming names but do a search on here for 'Brean' and its the farm that starts with W. (lol) .
We did however stay put where we were at 'old down touring park' near bristol. It was loooooovely. Vey relaxing and ony £9 per night with loads of pitch room. I'll soon put a review on.
To Riff and anyone else in need of some serious chilling ,,,,,,,Why not head for the 'Gathering on the Hill' c/o www.Volkswigan.co.uk a plesant weekend away at a sencible price on the August bank hoilday weekend,,,,,,,,£3 pere unit per night including entertainment.
As it say's it's a chill out weekend set in a 350 acre site , at a reasonable cost,,,,,,,so why pre book and be judged before you turn up,,,,,,,,come and have a ball with us.
We only have one rule,,,,,,,,if you make a mess before you go , you won't be invited ever again .
Regards
Bill,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
------------- I think animal testing is a terrible idea, they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.
Well, it seems that http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=2246 poetic justice has been served going by the more recent reviews of this site. You may not need to pass a DNA and dress code test any more, but they have been taken over and the prices have shot up, By the looks of things it means they'll be losing customers left, right and centre.
I know it sounds a bit unfair on my part, but their attitude was well out of order!

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!

Has anyone ever had to pass any special "test" to get on a campsite? We are travelling to Pooley Bridge at the weekend to (hopefully) attend a nearby festival and I have NEVER had a campsite owner "have to have a look" at me before letting me on!
The two couples we are going with are in their mid-thirties, as are we, and the single girl is 29. We aren''t a rowdy bunch, but do like a beer. The fact we are not taking kids with us seems to count against us! Only one of the couples has actually got round to having kids so far!
To make matters more complex, we are all arriving at different times due to work commitments.
We have tented all over the UK, but never encountered anything like this. Below is a copy of the e-mails bounced back and forth between my (tut-tut) single mate and fiance. Obviously, the first mailing is the bottom one!

Rang them up again today, managed to get through. Insist on not taking booking for tents, just turn up. Sounded a bit awkward when I said 3 couples & 1 single girl. They said turn up, but if they don''t like the look of us, they''ll not allow us in!! Was she joking, I don''t know, sounded a bit reluctant when I mentioned numbers.
Yet reading the reviews, it sounds that couples are allowed in as well as families or is that only during the off peak season?<SPAN class=622370014-11082004> One review was submitted by an 18 year old!! if we don''t get on due to our "looks", I''ll submitted a stinking review on the uk camping website. Thats no idle threat!! </SPAN>
So, if they don''t allow groups of single lads in, single lasses in & it sounds groups of couples in even aged 30+, who do they allow in?
Wonder what the other campsites around Pooley Bridge are like? Last time I was there [albeit 10 years ago] there were bike gangs etc = no problems<SPAN class=622370014-11082004> obviously changed for the worse it sounds</SPAN>

Personally I think it's quite good that the management is being a bit discerning about who they let in. If you are as respectable as you claim then you have nothing to fear.
All too often you read of folk having their holidays ruined by groups of young AND not so young people so good on the site management for making a bit of a stance. Perhaps though their methods are a bit questionable...........
The stupid thing about this is that appearence can be deceiveing. The family in the expensive car, with designer clothes might actually be the type that have their stereo blasting, and generally make other campers life a misery. Where as those in the old banger may well be the type that make no noise, other than wishing their fellow campers a cheery good morning as the meet on the way to the shower block.

But how the hell can you tell that by looking at someone ??

I did say that perhaps their methods are a bit questionable, but better that than none at all and it's for the likes of us here on this site and elsewhere to steer them in the right direction with constructive suggestions and criticism.
I should think that running a campsite and setting rules and regs which please everyone is nigh on impossible - you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs and I would think that this campsite's management is acting on past experiences and not a knee jerk reaction.
Whether you're a tin tenter or a canvas camper, there are bad apples in every barrel and unfortunately the majority always suffer. I have my own personal horrors which I quake at if they arrive next door or over the way from me and I'm sure we all have. I shall not be giving them an airing here as I have no desire to start World War 3!
But how the hell can you tell that by looking at someone ??
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reminds me of when the kids were little, we used to tow with a transit van, have two kids, two dogs in the back and a budgie in a cage between us in the front, (my what rif raf. We were often eyed up by site owners and told sorry no spaces, we thought it was so funny and we would move on. That was in the 'good old days' when you could go on spec.
I think that quite a few sites operate this sort of policy but don't explicitly state it. I tried to book into camp at Bainbridge Ings at Hawes & they informed me that they don't take bookings for tents & the only way to stay there was to turn up & see if space was available. I thought that this might be because people had, in the past, booked & then failed to turn up & so I offered to send a cheque for the full amount 2 weeks before I intended to go. This was not acceptable to them. I then asked ( to save me a wasted 120 mile journey ) if I could phone them when was about to set off &, assuming that they had a space available, if I could reserve it for the 2 hours it would take me to drive up there. Again they would not agree to this.
I can only assume that they want to see anyone who wants to camp there before they make the decision to let them in. I've since bought a caravan & I find it difficult to see how this makes me instantly more respectable.
We didn't bother with "that" site, but went to Parkfoot Farm instead. We ended up in the family site, but if anything it was noisier than other sites we've been to, and this site has a 12-8am noise curfew, which carries a £10 fine for anyone who breaches it!
Beware the walk back as well. The local charvas think it is hilarious to go bombing along the road in the dark when campers are trying to make it home in one piece. We were nearly run off the road. Take the public footpath along the river instead.
We nearly took a walk to the other site just to say, "Hmm. We don't like the look of this site", but bottled it!
We been to Park Foot a couple of times, when walking to or from the Village, walk down the lake, its quicker and safer.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
