We are planning a trip to the Isle of Wight for the end of June for our first camping trip of the season. Can anyone recommend a good site? We like the smaller more secluded scenic sites that have good modern and clean facilities. We are not interested in swimming pools/ entertainment or games rooms on site. We are tempted to go with the adgestone Camping and caravanning site- because we know the facilities are good- however we are a little put off by the size of the site itself.
Any recommendations?

It's a while since we went, about 7 or 8 years I think. We went on one of the 5 day deals with Red Funnel, with friends of ours, also in a motorhome. We went to The Orchards, and found it to be lovely. In a really nice part of the island. We went quite early in the year though, early April, so the site was not full at all. But we really liked the site, we had bikes with us, and cycled quite a lot, and also did quite a bit of walking.
Thanks Ina the Orchards looks nice- and the toilet/shower facilities look great- however it has a lot of facilities we just will not use- and still seems like quite a big site.
Ratty,
Have looked at some of the general reviews already on this website- alot to search through though- as your campsite search forum is so good- so wanted to narrow down my search by asking everyone the site they recommend for the Isle that will fit my requirements.

I would recommend whitefield forest, we spent 3 weeks there last summer nice site excellent facilities friendly owners, one of the best sites on the island if not the best in our opinion.

so far all of the sites mentioned are pretty commercial , there are quite a few more basic ones, that are more suited - stoats farm, freshwater; comforts farm, northwood; dairymans daughter cottage, arreton;roebeck farm, upton (ryde) and loads more!
try the isle of wight tourist information website for more info.
failing these... red funnel are doing more deals at the moment, check their website for more info.
i think its a bit difficult to say whch one is the best on the island, unless you have camped at all of them, and as someone who has only camped on the island, i certainly havent done half of them !!

I dont see how Whitefield Forest can be classed as commercial in any way at all. We stayed there for a week last July and it was fantastic. Huge pitches which are all marked out and separate, exc ellent facilities, friendly staff, lovelyl and peaceful. There's nothing there other than the toilet block and a little play park in the woods, its DEFINITELY not commercialised.
ok, sorry. i stand grammatically corrected!!
maybe i should say that all of the previously mentioned sites are "large overpriced (compared to others) sites"
and wouldnt say that WHITEFIELD FOREST could be classed as a scenic site, the view is blocked by trees lol...and it is on a main road (infact it is on beapers shute which is THE accident blackspot onthe island) it is suited to some, but not to all.
unfortunately, as with most tourist places, the bigger the site, the more publicity it gets..and therefore more reviews etc.

Southlands Caravan Club site - lovely site, just being refurbished new toilet blocks, extended and new hardstanding pitches as only bought by the CC during last year. I dont think it reopens until June this year - but we had a fantastic holiday there last summer.
