can anyone help,we are taking my son and is two boys aged 7&9 away with us in the summer holidays. we are trying to find a site that caters for children(not haven) that does not cost the earth to keep them occupied, we are thinking either the lakes or east yorkshire. we will be taking two tents, two cars, & two dogs, we usually go camping by ourselves so have not got a clue where to take them hope someone can help.

I cant help with sites in that area but I've found that my kids enjoyed any kind of site, mine have been on the most basic farm field to a much larger commercial sites. Start with what suits the two of you, the kids will love making friends, staying up later than usual, being outdoors etc. How did you get away with not taking them before?
Quotes from our kids and grandkids , . the best times camping were , were just, when we all just played games together , footie, cricket , rounders, I spy , cards, dominoes, noughts and crosses , we don't do this at home , we love playing cards ........ and when we went out at night with torches on a rabbit hunt ......never spotted a rabbit but it was great fun .... Oh yeah aND when it was raining and we still went to the beach looking in the rockpools and found all those little crabs and starfish ....

Have to agree with this. you can pull your hair out looking for sites with facilities for kids but most of them are happy with a few trees and enough space to run around and act like kids. throw in a few other kids and some fun games and hey presto - happy kids!

I'll second that we book there year on year for Whitsun week. Great site Great area play area for the kids.
I would say pack a few treats in the form of outside games equipment rather than worry about the actual sites. As long as they are big enough to have families there the kids will be find.
Swing ball, badmington, cricket sets, mini golf sets, football, kite, boules etc are all a good idea for games and some are better for small areas (with sof balls) if you are on a busy site. All of these are fun (but of course you don't need all lol)
You can get very cheap plastic sets from standard supermarkets and/or the bargain style shops.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
