My son wants to go fossil hunting this summer so we're hoping to go camping on the Jurassic Coast.
I'm sifting through all the campsite reviews but I don't know the area at all so any recommendations for a good family friendly campsite on the Jurassic Coast ??

Go careful if fossil hunting around Lyme Regis/Charmouth, keep away from the Cliffs, when down on the beaches, and keep off the soft fallen mud from the cliff falls,have just read today in the local news about a big cliff fall this past week, the biggest for years apparently, many people get caught out in that area, but don't let me put you off your Fossil Hunting, go find that Big Dino waiting to be found.
Lyme Regis//Seaton/ Beer are lovely Seaside Towns, Lyme Regis beach has more for kids with it's beach/swimming/ rock pools/small esplanade/and new landscaped gardens overlooking the beach.
Seadown, Charmouth. Site few minutes walk from beach and Charmouth is good for fossil hunting. But as Coast Walkers has stressed be vigilant on some coasts.
Try Downshay Farm - added bonus of having a steam train running through your garden each day!!
Try fossil hunting at Kimmeridge Bay, stunning and you can look at the rockpools too.

There are often guided fossil walks from Charmouth beach and there's a cafe and fossil shop by the beach. Charmouth itself has 2 pubs, Nisa (convenience store), butchers, a great chippy which does a range of food , cafe, hardware/gift store and a pharmacy.
If fossil collecting, please be careful, make sure you know the tide times, the route between Charmouth and Lyme Regis gets cut off at high tide (as do others) so if heading onto the beach make sure you know the tide times.
Don't walk, sit or stand at the bottom of cliffs as said above we've had a couple of really big falls and these may well continue - the last one would have killed anyone standing underneath them.
Don't walk across any large piles of mud etc at the bottom of cliff,s this is a sandy/muddy mix that will suck you in so that the coastguard has to come and pull you out.
Keep dogs on leads near clifftops - even if you trust them normally.
It all sounds a bit onerous but we have too many holiday makers who seem to leave their common sense at home so please be careful
I totally agree about being careful on the coast, it can be so dangerous. I live near Blackpool and we have issues with people not respecting the sea, although no cliffs. Two lads drifted off the coast last week on inflatables and had to be rescued by the RNLI.
I don't think we'll be doing any serious fossil hunting. More looking through the pebbles to see what we see rather than cliff climbing. The fossil hunting tours sound good though !
Highlands End near Bridport is lovely as well, with a cracking bar/restaurant on site and a swimming pool (but surprisingly peaceful as well). Not far from the Jurassic Coast.
