Hi all -hoping to go to Dorset for summer hols, was hoping to get some advice on sites that impress. We have a monty 6 with all the add- ons so a site with large pitches would be ideal. Here's to a sunshine summer

It would be helpful if you could provide a bit more information about what you are looking for, like if there are children in your group; if yes, then their age; whether you need access to a beach, forest, cycle track; near to pool, pub, etc. etc...
For me, I am returning to Birchwood Tourist Park later this year.
Very peaceful site close to Wareham Forest, not far from Sandbank, Swanage or Poole, very good facilities, and I believe they have large pitches.

thanks for reply,we have older kids so open spaces are more preferable than play areas.Other than that we are open minded about facilities,we have visited both holiday parks as well as traditional sites.
we've been to sea barn farm, nice, but far too regimented for us, the family next door got told off as one of their guy ropes had gone out of their white line !!!, the site has superb showers though. also a bit further along next to corfe castle is a lovley site called downshay farm, beautiful setting on a hill overlooking the purbeck hills, corfe castle, and a steam train line, i hear a new toilet block has been built since we last went, were back to dorset this month, were going to hook farm, in lyme regis, we have two teenagers, and two younger children to entertain, hope this helps, gary

Ridge farm in Wareham has a lovely site shop where you can order your papers , croissants , pain au chocolats for the next morning The pitches are quite large and well spaced in the main field and in the overflow field( peak time only or if demand is high ) it is pitch where you find . Lovely views down to the river and play deer spoting in the adjoining fields . Older but good clean facilities .10 minute walk along the river into wareham for shops and pubs . 10 minute drive to the steam railway which runs to Corfe Castle and Swanage ( lovely beach ). And it is not too far from Poole and Bournemouth for larger shops and supermarkets.

We have been to South Lytchett Manor campsite near Poole a couple of times. This ticks all the boxes with regards to pitch size, friendliness, location, facilities etc. If you like nature you can see deer in the adjoining fields, and there is a nice little craft centre/cafe next door, and a good pub within walking distance.
It is well placed for Poole (15 mins) Swanage (40 mins) and has a huge Tesco within 10 min drive.
Rowlands Wait is a great site, well placed for everything, the people who own it are lovely, If you are happy without elec you can pitch where you like so no issues with space, Good shop and facilities.
My kids who are 15 and 12 are always really happy there!

Hi, we are going there on 21st May, (cant wait.) So thanks for the plug.!
Riverside Lakes has been stored in my "must visit" sites for some time.
It's about 20 minutes from Bournemouth and is more the "natural" campsite rather than holiday park. You can have fires and it seems very relaxed and laid back. I think this could offer the "open areas" you may be seeking rather than play areas. Has an informal feel without silly rules - so don't think you'd have any problems with your tent.
Has good reviews - looks as though the owners are friendly, even come out with glowsticks in the evening for the kids!
Our eldest children are 15 and 13, we often visit Wareham Forest Tourist Pk, they offer excellent facilities. Located right in the forest, with walks directly off the park. Play area, pool table, table tennis, outdoor pool and large grassed area for ball games etc for older kids.
We love Dorset as excellent for getting to lots of different attractions, esp with having older kids. Also visiting Hoburne Bashley this summer, altho a busier site the reviews are good and the thinking being will have even more for kids to do and in great location to the New Forest. Can also take dogs to both these sites.
------------- Wareham Forest tourist Pk - (Wareham), Oakdown(Sidmouth), Seaview Int (St Austell), Merley Court (Wimbourne), Callow Top (Derbyshire), Old Manor (Grafham Water), Woodlands (Totnes), Lincoln Farm Park(Oxford), Bainland (Lincoln)
Nicolaston Farm (Gower)

We also went to Wareham Forest just before Easter and really liked the site. Very well looked after, between Poole and Weymouth. We were on a hardstanding pitch - very level, lot of room. Park is well laid out with an open area for football near entrance. Read reviews here.
