I am thinking of a trip to the New Forest. Can anyone recommend a lovely family friendly smaller campsite in the New Forest that is reasonably priced please?
Thanks
Kim

I am sorry to dis the new forest but I don't think any campsite in the forest is reasonably priced in high season. I recently was looking for a site there and red shoot wanted £51 a night. The vast majority of the forest sites are large forestry commission sites., and they want £10 a night to pitch our gazebo which we use as a kitchen tent!
I can recommend meadow view which isn't far from the forest, near wimbourne.

"Reasonably priced" and "new forest" are not phrases normally found together. As OJB suggests look just outside the forest. There are several around Three Legged Cross. We used to use a naturist site there so you probably don't want that but I believe the others are pleasant & inexpensive.

I'd agree with that ! We live half mile from Ashurst Camp Site and to give the grandchildren a treat took them up them for a night with us in the camper van and a small tent....Cost £48 !!! I could not believe it and there are no marked pitches so people and ponies roam freely all around !! The wash block was ok.There is also the constant noise of trains which run bahind the site and the busy main road in front of the site ! Never again !!
we stayed at Verwood C&CC site last summer, it's been upgraded since then, ok, it's just out of the new forest but not by much, area is stunning, lots to do, very near to moors valley, and if you know the area (we used to live in the area) it's great for exploring the seaside resorts as well as all the forest has to offer.
------------- After a 3 year break the trailer tent is back in use. Here"s to 2016.

Nomansland north new forest, Carrons site at £10 incl electric but the toilet and especailly the one showers bit to be desired and best if you ahve your own on board so dont need to bother. Lovely village an great pub, would use again at hat price.
------------- "Close your eyes and pretend it's all a dream, that's how I get by"
We've just come back from the Verwood C&CC site. The toilet blocks were first rate and the roads around the site have been resurfaced. Site was nice and quite at night with very little traffic on the road. Very handy for the new forest and Bournemouth.

One of the best non Forestry commission sites is Long Meadow near Brockenhurst.Spacious site for traditional camping walk out of the gate and you're in nthe forest.

We have just got back from the New Forest, a very basic campsite called Chapelfield.
It is very basic, porta loo's (very clean), showers (also very clean), washing up facilities and a grocery van comes round in the morning. No electric or park. But it was the most reasonable priced we found and is only open certain times of the year.
We have never not had electric but we really enjoyed it, accept my daughter who is 15 thought life without straighteners was a nightmare, lol.
It is only 3 miles from Fordingbridge which is a lovely village.
The owners were very friendly and a lovely location to enjoy the New Forest, its beautiful.
Long Meadow. It's just a field, but right in the middle of the forest. Very family friendly, very good chilled atmosphere, no noise after 10:30, reasonable (£22 per night for two adults, kids are £1 or £2 extra). Pristine toilets and showers, washing up facilities, EHU if you need it, £5 extra per night I think.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
