My husband and I will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary next summer. Our present to each other will be a 2 week camping tour and we need your help please. We live in the Bedfordshire area and would like to tour the north of the country and Scotland. What we are looking for is your fav campsites, the little gems you have discovered on your hols. We have two lurchers which will be tagging along so they will have to be dog friendly sites and our sons will not be joining us this time so it doesn't matter if they are adult only. We will be purchasing another caravan next year to replace our current folding caravan, not sure which one yet, but the sites will need to be accessible to a caravan.
We would love to hear of some real little gems that are next to water, lakes, rivers or the sea, villages or castles, within walking distance of a good pub or two, pretty, quaint or quirky or just something a bit different. Currently we have no solar panel or generator so some of the sites would need to have hook up for us to recharge but not all of them. So if you are prepared to give up your secrets then we would love to hear from you so we can plan our trip with your best advice.
Thanks
Sarah & Rod

One of my favourite gems - Invercaimbe site at Arisaig in the Highlands. Dog friendly, the end of the site goes right onto a fab beach, the views are to die for and the sunsets spectacular. Quite romantic imo

The only place in Scotland is Arisaig (or so it might seem), so that is why I escape to a real gem of a site on the other side of the country that not many people believe exists.
Try visiting Aberlour gardens, a very friendly site just a short walk from the Spey way and more distilleries than you could shake a stick at. Small village with decent shops, cafes and pubs.
Great walking along the side of the Spey and walking distance to Dufftown and the Glenfiddich distillery (free tour & tasting) (or there's a regular bus).
------------- Two drifters off to see the world.
I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
We are also from Bedfordshire, celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary last month, and are off to the western Highlands of Scotland for two weeks on Tuesday!
I can recommend Sands campsite at Gairloch, stunning setting, caravan and tent friendly (separate areas) with great facilities, a good and well stocked/priced shop and right next to the most lovely beach, with views out to Skye, and dog friendly too, as our little chap will testify!
Last time we went in 2012, we barbecued fish on the beach, bottle of wine, watching the sun setting over Skye, can't get more romantic than that!
The only thing it doesn't have is a walkable pub, there are good pubs in the area though, the Badachro Inn is great, but we did not really do any other pubs, preferring to enjoy a drink near our tent or on the beach.
Fantastic and scenic walks in the area, and a few nice shops in the town, we loved it.
Jane.

Well Happy Anniversary to you Jane (Tentaddict7). How strange that we should choose to celebrate in a similar fashion. I hope that you have a wonderful trip and let me know if you discover anymore gems while you are away. That site sounds wonderful though, just exactly what we were looking for.
Thank you also to Capt Lightning and Tigermouse. I have checked out both the sites you mention and they are also included on our shortlist now. It really is invaluable gaining insight from fellow campers as no-one can give a better review than one who has used and loved a place that they have discovered along their travels.
We are now also thinking about coming back to the Conwy area of Wales on the way back too if we have enough time.
Keep em coming.
Thank you

Forgot to say, camp fires are allowed on the beach at Invercaimbe as long as they are put out before you leave them. I don't know when next summer you plan on doing your trip but I think that area seems to get the best weather in May/early June, also there's very few midges. I went the first week in June last year and had fantastic weather - here's a few pics to give you an idea of what it's like -

Perhaps it's because I live near the coast that I prefer to go inland. I can visit the beaches, fishing ports or rocky coves any time I like, so heading for the hills is my getaway.
For coast lovers, here is a sample of what the East coast has to offer, just a few miles from my home.

We are from Bedfordshire too, OH always tells people we are from Barton but we really live in Limbury, the posh(ish) area of north Luton.
We prefer Wales to Scotland, just returned from Pembrokeshire which is great, we also like Anglesey. Lovely beaches, don't know much about pubs as we drink in or by the caravan, but Bodewran Bach CS on Anglesey has its own pub.
Thank you for the pics of the beautiful scenery and the info about campfires on the beach etc. The photos you have all included look right up our street and as for the campfires....perfect. This is giving us really good food for thought.
Mrs Bonce we are from Stopsley so I know exactly where you mean. We would also love to do some of Wales, time permitting and I shall definitely look up the site you mention and that area too.
Thank you all.

Birchwood Tourist Park, Wareham, Dorset is my favourite site, as it is very peaceful during non-school holidays, with direct access to Wareham Forest which is great for walks and cycling with the dog.
Sandbanks beaches is a short drive away with a large section that is dog-friendly all year round.
Only 2h drive from home towing a trailer, very friendly and helpful staff and owners, with excellent facilities.
Been there every year since 2009 apart from 2010 when I decided to try another site in the area.
