Hi there, im new to this site. My partner and I are looking to buy a touring caravan to live in full time. What we are finding difficult is identifying a site that will allow us to stay long term at an affordable price. We are looking for somewhere in the region of £8-£12 per night. Both of us work full time. Does anyone have any information that would help us or experience of full-timing in Scotland?
any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

I have no personal experiance sorry, only to say that most sites are governed by their license that stipulates a maximum stay in anyone period of between 21 and 28 days with a no return period that is again stipulated by their local planning laws, therefore you are more than lightly to be required to move onto a new site every three weeks or so.

You can get seasonal pitches that go from around March to November, but again the length of time that you will be allowed to occupy your caravan will depend on the sites license and the local planning regulations of whatever council granted them the license. To achieve your goal and keep within your budget, you may have to find a couple of close by Cls or CSs and hop between the pair of them every 21days or so depending on the sites rules and regulations, making your bookings in advance for each site for the forseeable future, and choosing a site that remains open all year and provides hardstandings for when the weather gets bad.

Good luck with your quest,

Julia

Try the site search on this website. Choose a location on the map, set a radius, tick on 'open all year' and 'seasonals' and see what you come up with. As others have said, it depends on the Council licence - their policies generally don't support full time on a site in a touring caravan (unless you're on a Council site that's designated for the travelling community) as they want you to pay council tax, have a vote etc. So campsites such as the ones we use may limit your stay so you have to move, even briefly, at some point - like a parking place, x hours & no return within x hours. Or at least move out but leave the caravan there as if it was a holiday home. Various people on this forum (or the life in general one) have asked about living full time on a site, so if you search you'll find a lot of useful information posted already.

Mosshall Caravan Park

We have been there and there are full-timers on that site.

It would be ideal for you.
