Hi everyone
We are looking for a lovely campsite for 3 nights in early September, for our first trip in a Hymer (1994 Mercedes)
Would love to hear of any recommendations that fit the following criteria please -
Peak District
Suitable for motor homes
Dog friendly
Nice walks
Beautiful views, especially interested in river/lake views
Villages within easy walk, pubs, cafes etc and small shops
(Don't want to drive the Hymer once pitched up!!)
Pub / food / shop on site
Clean shower blocks
Please help us choose a sight that helps us make the most of our first ever trip to the Peak Ditrict !
Thank you
J

Have a look at Clover Fields near Buxton. Think it meets most, if not all of your criteria, though not 100% sure about public transport / how long it takes to walk from the site into Buxton itself. Lots of very positive reviews on here. Beech Croft Farm is also highly recommended, though it a fair way from Buxton and again I'm not sure what is in easy walking distance.
Another mention for Clover Fields, beautiful, quiet site, nice dog walk, lovely clean facilities and to add to all this it has a lovely café/tea room on site that does amazing meals - if you have a dog they deliver to your unit. We're there bank holiday week and have already pre-booked our Sunday roast to be delivered to our tent! The shop is small but reasonably priced and very well stocked. As above, not sure about public transport, Buxton is about 10 mins away in car.
Fishing Lake
Dog walk
Teapots Café
Two of the meals we had delivered to our tent
Lovely big pitches
Hope this helps, we love it there!

We are very lucky to live around here - have you looked at Bank house in Hulme End, Nr Hartington. No idea what it is like but always seems busy in the summer. Has village pub, shop, by the river and a 1 mile in Hartington or little more to Warslow with a pub. Manifold track on your doorstep too for walking.

We have been to Beech Croft Farm a few times and it's a great site, but having seen the pictures above of Clover Fields I think I will be going there next !

Very little to choose between the two sites. Main difference is they allow kids at Beechcroft, and they have a more open feel to the tent field, as opposed to just a few grass pitches at Clover Fields.
Both excellent in their own right.
If I was forced to choose, I'd probably plump for... damn, my inks ran out!
It's the food being delivered to the your van that got me interested.
Anyone know of another site in the peak district that allows kids and has a cafe on site?
Not stayed there yet, but it looked nice when we popped in for a nosy a couple of years ago, in passing.
Bar, restaurant and cafe all on site, if I recall?
Actually, it's about time we tried this out. Could be a handy last minute winter get away for us in winter, as it's only closed in January. 40mins away from us, and handy for the Tissington trail.
Like I say... time we gave them a try!
Not sure if you have decided on somewhere yet but Laneside at Hope is a lovely site. Five minutes walk into Hope village with pubs, village shop and a restaurant. Thirty minutes walk to Castleton with plenty more pubs and places to eat. Great walking from the site too.
Just to add my vote for Clover Fields...Dont take food and dont eat for three days before you go, the food served up is in large portions and is most yummy.
Great site.

Every day is a gift..That's why it's called the present.
Greenhills holiday park is a short walk from Bakewell. Also a short walk in oposite direction to a pub. From bakewell you can walk or cycle the monsal trail.

Well, we had a lovely 3 days in the Peak District :)
We hired an old Hymer to see if we liked it.....thinking of buying one....and yes, we loved it !!
Our first night was spent at Laneside in Hope, it was a pleasant enough site but even though there were lots of spare pitches we were placed onto what looked and felt like a gravel car park. Not pretty but we knew we'd only be there one night and we were tired after a day's driving.
The best thing about Laneside was the fact you can walk to the little village in a few minutes and there's a big pub with cafe attached and they did good pub grub and next morning we went back for a big breakfast. There's another couple of pubs, a cafe and a fairly big convenience store there, but not much else.
Our 2nd and 3rd nights were spent at Greenhills in Bakewell and what a difference !! A truly beautiful site, spotlessly clean and everything so well maintained. The lovely girl on reception, Amy, was charming and even let us wander around to choose the best pitch. This meant we had loads of space and a lovely view.
Greenhills is a 25min walk into Bakewell - a lovely town to visit with lots of shops to potter around in and great pubs (the Peacock was our favourite) but you can also do a riverside walk into Bakewell which takes an hour but was well worth it. One of the fields we crossed had Llamas in it, that have the dog quite a surprise!
You can also walk to the smaller town of Ashford in the Water, that took about 10mins and it had a pub, cafe, small shop. We had a delicious cooked breakfast in the little cafe, very nice indeed
Now our search starts for a Hyner....we are looking to find a 1990-1995'ish model B534 (rear u-shaped lounge) but we are in no rush so we'll be hanging on to find one that's just right !
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
