I mentioned on my trip report I had picked up a campingaz globetrotter for 5 euros in a French flea market.
It came with a canister (empty), the pots, the pot handle and the original strap.
I had one of these back in 81 or 82. It was my first lightweight stove. The canisters were cold weather propane/butane mix which was pretty novel then. The canisters were also very expensive.
I replaced it with a svea 123r (optimus climber) and don't know what happened to it.
The globetrotter was surprisingly good in the wind due to the little windshield lip round the burner. The pots didn't seem much use then but now, with dehydrated food they are ideal (OK aluminium - not good for the auld brain).
I'm kicking myself that I didn't pick up the campingaz lantern that was for sale. It was also for piercable canisters but the bigger ones that are still available. I could have swapped the legs and used the bigger canisters.
However, another hack has been to replace the burner from a Coleman with the better burner from the globetrotter. When Coleman bought campingaz, they got rid of the globetrotter and the small canisters but the threading for the bluett and single burner stoves haven't changed. They also use the same jets.
Not wanting to fork out 30 pounds for a Coleman stove to cannibalise, I remembered I had a clic system bluett in the gear cupboard.
Quick removal of the globetrotter base from the burner
All still mint for collectors.
Take of the bluett burner and replace with the globetrotter one.
It burnt a bit yellow at first until 40 years of crud came out of it.
After a few seconds it had a nice blue flame.
Now, I have a backpacking stove guaranteed to have fuel in France. It is more windproof and compact than the bluett. It can also be returned back to original.
Nostalgia can be useful sometimes.
