Had a great weekend despite Storm Malik. To keep my backpacking tent dry for the wild pitch I used my North Face Mountain 25 tent on Friday night - hardly moved during the storm. My new tent is the silver cuben fibre Trekkertent Phreeranger in the pics. I've bought it for bikebacking but couldn't resist trying it out. Wind had died down fully by Saturday evening - that or the valley we were in provided shelter. Clear sky & hard frost Saturday night. 14 miles & 2400' of ascent - nothing epic but pleased with ankle. Some discomfort as tendons still very tight but plenty ibuprofen helped.
Great to hear the ankle is holding up. Lovely pics there.
I used to lust after the phreeranger and the phreak when I was a youngster. Good to see that Marc has resurrected the phreeranger. A case of a Phoenix rising from the Ashes?
Glad your Ankle stood upto the hilly hike
Lovely photo's
It looks very bleak and remote .
The Night sky photos very clear
Is that a Tent Fest on that hillside
And Is that North Face an Expedition tent ⛺?
Very enjoyable Trip Report Spitburner .
Aye it was a bit. We'd normally be more spaced out but the ground was rough & the best bit had us close together. The TNF tent is kind off an expedition tent. Fully geodesic with an extended porch pole. It barely moves in high winds. I've had a better expedition tent. This one has quite thin poles for that category. My Terra Nova Super Quasar had thicker poles - 11mm v 8mm I think plus the poles fully crossed over at the side. However the trips that demanded that are behind me & the TNF tent was a gift from a good friend & serves as a great, spacious tent in rough UK weather & often borrowed by my son & his girlfriend so that one keeps going while the Terra Nova has been sold. I'd highly recommend it though.
I bought an Ultimate Tramp (an old favourite) that was not far off new a few years back. It wasn't long before the PU coating started to peel although it looked perfect when I got it. I think age will affect it regardless of use.
My Saunders gave up due to uv degradation. A tent stored that long as that phreak will probably degrade the coating quite quickly.
What we really need is someone to make them again. Marc at Trekkertent does the phreerunner and the stealth is a good jetpacker/fell pine homage. A peapod or phazor dome would be nice to see.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
