Hi All,

This is my first post, so go easy on me.

We are travelling down to the Dordogne in September, and want to stop for 3-4 days on the way. I have read a lot of reviews on campsites around Tours, but don't really know the area that well.

Can anyone recommend any nice campsites for tents that are around 2.5-3.5 hrs from Le Havre, heading en route for Angouleme.

Many thanks,

Ed

PS - I love this site, it's been so helpful already

This is a good site near Blois and close to Vierzon, the start of the A20 (the lovely FREE motorway to the Dordogne)
Les Saules

If you have Vacancesoleil cheques, it is only £9 for 2 people, unit and ehu.

The owner is a fantastic cheerful chap who will fit you in, even if full

Municipal at St Avertin (Tours) is clean and well kept, handy for visits to chateaux or there is a smallish site at Azay le Rideau (can't remember the name).

There is a fantastic municipal site at La Fleche.

Maybe a bit out of your way but the journey is worth it.

Sorry to vear off topic, but having looked on the vacansoleil website, it keeps mentioning a deposit, in one case, E300. Does anyone know what this for?

Vacansoleil also hire mobile homes, and arrange full package camping holiday, where everything is organised for you, and it's probably related to that.

I can't find mention of it on the website, without looking through every 'page' but it's not anywhere I can see on the Soleil Cheques page (linked to above).  Basically with Camping Cheques, Soleil Cheques and Touring Cheques, you buy them in advance - as many as you want to cover the nights you're planning to stay on one of their sites.  There's usually a small amount of admin fee to pay on top, but certainly no deposit, etc.

The municipal at Azay le Rideau is "Le Sabot" - 3 star site - lovely location by the river near the chateau (IMHO the prettiest in France) - 5 mins stroll into the village - 2 mins up the hill in the car to the supermarket.

This is the most popular overnight stop for Brits just south of Alencon and a few miles of the Autoroute.

The St Avertin in Tours is a ACSI site, you can get a bus into the center, turn left out of the site, over the bridge, left on main road, cross over and bus station is on the right, the office will give you a time table, english is spoken by very helpful man and wife, basic but well run site.
